Al Agnew Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I fished most of the day today and got skunked! First time that's happened in forever, and I'm older that dirt. Two bites all day on a hair jig, missed one and had the other on for about two seconds. I went to a stretch of river where I expected the fishing to be somewhat difficult, with the express purpose of fishing two holes that I've always thought should hold some good wintering fish. I fished those two pools and one other where I've caught plenty of smallish ones before from 11 AM to 4 PM. Water temp was 38-39 degrees, river low and visibility at least 12 feet. I spent quite a bit of time in that clear water just looking for fish, and all day long I saw exactly two hogsuckers. No bass. No sunfish. No redhorse. Apparently every fish in the river was hiding under rocks, freaked out by last night's super moon. Yeah, that has to be it. Not my fault I got skunked. Gavin Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Hate a full moon with clear water. They can eat all night! At least you got out, great day to be out.
Smalliebigs Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Hey at least you have the nads to post a no fish report Al.....kudos to you for that. I love just cruising thru the hole that is crystal clear looking for fish.
Greasy B Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Fish disappear on days or in seasons then reappear, we have all seen it. It’s like magic. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Bushbeater Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I thought everyone knew they can move in the space time continuum. Here today, gone tomorrow. Greasy B 1
Hog Wally Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I'm guilty of not mentioning my many skunk trips. It happens quite often considering I fish almost everyday. But, I usually give up pretty quick. Al, you are not a quitter.
Old plug Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 It happens to everybody. Usually happens to me at the start or end of A seasonal change. Real easy to get skunked then because were human The fish are in there element. They make shifts and changes and pull the rug out from under your a bit.
Haris122 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I've been having the trout skunk me all winter long at the urban trout lakes. Granted I haven't gone as much as in past winters, but still. My aim is to actually get one of them this winter before they get so rare that it's a pointless venture. With today being the first day of February, and all lakes being open to catch and keep, time is beginning to run thin, it feels like.
