Haris122
Me and Mike H went to Meramec Springs today, and almost had the entire park to us. We got there a little before the siren went off, and stayed until it blared out again. In that time, I don't think there were more than 2-4 other people there. So the entire park had 4, maybe (though I doubt it) up to 6 people, fishing there total for the day, and we were the only ones that stayed the entire time. It stayed cold the entire day but the fish were cooperating nicely. I caught 8 or so rainbows, while Mike got somewhere between 15-20, with both of us losing quite a few before we could net them as well. I got mine on a variety of single hook roostertails, as well as a jig, but I kind of had to pick my spots with the roostertails, as they tended not to buy it if they had enough to time to look at it real good. Mike got his on an assortment of flies who's names I'm not familiar with. All of the fish fought hard, with several rocketing out of the water a number of times during the fight. About the only thing missing was real big fish, as the ones we caught seemed to range around the usual stocker size or a little bigger. It was really cool to be able to pick whatever spot you wanted to fish, whenever you wanted it. I'm going to try to make it out once more before c&r closes next week, and then I'm planning to finally see what opening day is like for once come March. ness, Daryk Campbell Sr, Seth and 2 others
Seth
I'm trying to get a crew rounded up to take down for the opener. It doesn't matter to me if I go, but I always tell people they have to at least try it one time. It's really not as bad as people make it sound IF you avoid the main holes (bathroom and bridge holes in particular). There really isn't a reason to fight over those spots anyways that first day as there are so many fish in the stream that you can catch fish in far less crowded areas of the park. JestersHK
Seth I may roll down for the opener. I like to watch the spectacle, and combat fishing and then fish in the afternoon I usually hit up Bennett for the long weekend but have a packed schedule... Meramec I can make a day trip out of. If ya didn't mind the company that is. Didn't fish the spring one time last season... Too busy making runs to Taney Seth
Seth
Since I started fishing Lilley's tourneys last year and now this year, the urge to go trout fish Maramec on the opener isn't quite what it used to be. It used to be the beginning of the fishing season for me, but now that I fish all winter long it just doesn't have the same "impact". I'll probably go regardless if anybody else tags along. It still beats sitting on my duff here at work. Lets follow up later next week as it gets closer and figure out if we are both for sure going and go from there. Seth
If three of us team up, I say we go hold our ground in the bathroom hole. Who wants to be the hero and make the first cast 5 seconds after the buzzer goes off and catch everybody else's line so the other two can get first dibs? I should step down to the bathroom with a casting setup and a big jigging spoon tied on and see if anybody says anything. Spoonbill snagging outfit works best for that. Bill Daryk Campbell Sr, Johnsfolly and Seth 1
