Headed down to the Rock from IL next weekend, never been there before. I hear the water is really clear, but I have to think with all the rain the water has some color. Can I get away with the 12-15lb line I have on all my reels, or am I gonna have to respool lighter line?

line size is relative to what you are fishing, and how is affects sink rate.  you can over power a lure with a line that is too big and take away from the action.

This. I have pretty much given up caring about fishes ability to see and/or care about line. As Bo mentions here, I only care about how the line effects my lure/presentation/conditions.

Properties - floating (mono) vs sinking (fluoro)

Stretch - (mono) vs less stretch (fluoro) vs no stretch (braid)

Diameter - sink rates, cranking depth

12-15lb should be fine for just about all applications on TR from soft plastics, to jigs, to cranks and pretty much anything you wanna throw.

I respectfully disagree with you stupid heads who don’t believe line visibility matters. 😁 Spool your spinning rods with good 6-lb green mono. Use 10 lb carbon on finesse jigs and crank baits. You can use 17 mono for spinnerbaits. You can drag a FB jig or C-rig on 15 lb carbon.

I use 10 - 12 lbs green mono or fluro on just about everything.

I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything!

I  Know it's a bit old school. But I do as well. Of course there is not a lot of docks where I fish. If there was I would probably do braid. But so far. It works for me.

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???B)
