Trailer hooks, how do you guys attach and keep them on your spinnerbaits?  I have cut a small piece of tubing a 1/4 inch or so and placed it at a 90 deg to the hook eye for years. I saw on a package of hooks that they suggested putting the tubing over the eye and then piercing the tubing. So how do the experts do it?

Take the smallest zip tie they sale and slide the open end (part you stick the strap through) on the hook.  Use the tag end to pull it over the barb and then cut the tag end or the Strap part off.  This works very well, only takes a second or two, and is cheap.

A cut off piece of a McDonald’s straw works in a pinch too. I usually put a littl piece of tubing after the trailer hook to keep it from sliding off. Sometimes I put a piece on both sides of the hook to hold it in place.

I prefer my trailer hook to have some freedom of movement. I got the feeling that they hang less that way.

I do not use a trailer hook on my spinner baits.

I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything!

I only add a trailer hook if I have consistent short striking fish.  I've gotten much more brave as to where I'll throw one and just don't like getting the trailer hook hung up all of the time.  Having said that, I've used one a few times out this year because the fishing has been so weird.  I almost always have a plastic trailer of some kind to give the body bulk and feel like I get them on the main hook much more as a result of that.  To answer the question about the tubing, I usually put it over the eye of the hook and thread it on that way.

I've recently stumbled upon Molix spinnerbaits and absolutely LOVE them.  I've never used a trailer hook on them and they have great hook up ratios.  Molix and War Eagle are all I'm throwing these days.

Hole punch and a a plastic Coffey can lid, will take 2. Rarely use though. Swim jigs work better.

I don't always use them, but I've become a fan of these.  I believe with the soft "leader" it doesn't interfere with the primary hook, and the circle type hook doesn't seem to be snag prone.

I do wish they made it in a 3/0 or 4/0 though.  the 2/0 is perfect for a 1/4 oz. spinnerbait.  Short spots are almost always on the trailer when I have one of these on.
