The weights aren't any less impressive at any of the daily tournaments held at any of our lakes.   And since it is so popular, and making so much $$$$ then why not make them all that way ?

It's popular because it fits todays society... fast and now.  Like I said its a TV production. we all know weekend tournament fishing doesn't look like the MLF show. we are all not bring brought in given a boat and sent out. their making $$$ because they have anglers that even most novice anglers know...KVD,  IKE, Hackney Ott Defoe ect.... folks see those guys on TV and go buy Jack Links jerky and Rage craws, because they saw it on KVD's jersey.

_MLF uses a scale to weigh fish, and they all have the same one, so in a local/club tournament who is buying the scales that anglers use (have to all use the same one) and who is certifying the scales are correct.

_How many marshals do you think are really going to volunteer to sit a  boat on a Saturday night 7p-1a club tournament.

Also the Kayak tournaments format is not  fool proof, one of the largest cheating scandals was only  a few years ago when a guy had doctored this measuring board (i'll try to find the article.) so nothing is perfect.

You don't have to weigh when you can measure.

You don't have marshalls at this point so who is making sure they don't just pull up to a cage and pull the fish out.

Doctored measuring boards, caged fish, stringered fish, multiple boats combining fish, lead weights swallowed. Yep nothing is perfect. But you can combat the doctored measuring board pretty easy with an identifier in the picture.

YUP NOTHING IS PERFECT THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WILLING  TO TAKE IT TOO FAR AND PENALIZE REST OF US! GREED IS A POWERFUL THING

Unfortunately. If there is money and any recognition involved some people will try to do it the easy way. It's been going on a long time and I have been on the losing end of it at least twice that I know of. And neither time would a tournament director do anything about it.

I've been working for the past 2 years in my free time on an app with Phil to use for his trout measuring tournaments... Its been a learning experience for sure, which sadly due to my full time job has been a bit neglected lately.  I have used it for his CAM tourney and it works well as far as water marking a photo of the fish with a date / time/ GPS stamp.  Which then uploads to a channel where he could monitor our catches.  We also have a measuring tool within the app which we are working to key off a reference object( currently a 4x4 tile) which would then auto measure your catch.  Measuring tool works, but its still quite cumbersome.

My point being is the technology is out there.  If I can get an App built with one guy doing dev work and me doing design work, somebody with a dedicated team doing this as their job the possibilities are limitless.  You could easily tie in a Bluetooth enabled scale into the App if you wanted weight as well.  I will say its not as fast as writing down the length of your catch in a notebook.  It can also be challenging getting fish to hold still in a location to get a pic, but every one was using it, it would level the playing field.

My developer that was working with me on it has had even less time to work on it than I have, but it is still a passion that I am chasing and trying to get out there in the app store so that it could be used by our Forum members.  I'm looking for Android and iOS devs too if anyone has those skill sets!  :)

OK,

 I Back !!!!

Waterpossum, 1 fish weigh-ins, this would help tremendously....................

Fishingwrench, I know you are right about the percentage of fish that get caught in a lake is BIG !!!  I have personally looked at my  graph while I watched every fish in a school disappear from the screen as I caught them. Only makes sense that it happens to others too.

TJM, Most fish sink when they die.......................

Unimog, Money, Correct, always........................

Mhyde, Bottom Line, the driving force from the manufacturers is to sell equipment and tackle, Tournaments really boost this big time........

Hey look !!!!!!!  I got a new boat, new fish finders, new rods, and $2,000 dollars worth of $30  Crank Baits. Now I can catch fish just like the pros!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more thing................. Why is it legal for the tournament guys to Cull fish and not the everyday angler??? Because there is tens of thousands of everyday anglers !!!!! AND WHEN YOU HAUL THEM AROUND THEY DIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The End,

Walcrabass

So if fish sink when they die. How do we know that so many die after all these tourneys? Do we just assume that or is there proof? I like how a lot of people throw out numbers without backup. Would love to see several certified studies on this before claims are made good and bad.
