I know that you want to catch any trout. Would seem fitting to try for some native cuttbroats if you can find them. Thought that I would bring that up before Marty 😜. Good luck! Can't wait for a report.

Yep, go for the Greenback or Colorado River cutts if you’re interested in rare, beautiful, native trout. Greenbacks are on the east side of the divide, and the easiest place to get to them is where Roaring River dumps into Fall River  at the alluvial fan near Aspenglen campground. Colorado River are on the west side and you’ll have to hike up higher to get to them. Otherwise, brookies, browns and rainbows live in every stream or lake in the park. Check the regs—there are some areas with special restrictions.

Not familiar with Glenwood Springs area.

RMNP is stunning scenery, good wildlife watching and decent fishing. Be sure to go through the park, and up over the divide. Early in the morning or in the evening are best for avoiding traffic and crowds and seeing wildlife.

My wife and I hiked up to Fern Lake and caught some of the greenback cutts up there.  Gorgeous fish and they were taking drys on the top that day.  Fun stuff.  Wasn't a fun hike up the mountain in waders though.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Ok, we did some planning this evening, we are staying the night in Silt CO so I'll be pretty close to the White River national Forest on that Friday.  Any areas around there that would be good?

That evening we'll be heading closer to the RMNP.  I have a few leads there on where to go, but any advice for around the Glenn wood springs / White River area would be great.

I did an exstensive report on Glenwood Springs about a year ago. I’ve been there many times.

I went to a place at new castle this evening.   The colorado is blown outand muddy, but I fished from shore for a few hours anyways.   Had 2 bites on a white jig but never got hooked up.   Wind was brutal... a pitb trying to cast...

Going to try grizzly creek in the morning,  and hope for better luck.  How is not blown out too and I can find some wadeable area...
