I will be the first to admit that I have and still sometimes do schedule family trips so that we can stop at a Cabela's or Bass Pro shops on the way. The Kids always loved the aquariums and mounts. I still like to get to new ones if I can. When they opened the Bass Pro shops in the Pyramid in Memphis my wife said that she would take me there sometime. You know how best intentions are. We never made the time to commit to going down to Memphis. So when we drove back from Maryland, I made it a point to head down to Memphis before getting back into Missouri. I am glad that we did. The Pyramid is an amazing facility. Here are some of the photos from that trip.

When we got there a man was cleaning the glass near the bass pro logo.  You know that it is a tall building when you have an full elk mount above the fireplace!

Was tough to get good photos inside with my phone. Behind Sue and Olivia is the 22 story freestanding elevator to the top of the pyramid. Lots of fish everywhere like these bass and carp. 20180405_103055.jpg

A paddlefish.

Several sturgeon (bucket list fish) and large stripers swimming under the docks and boats for sale.

Another bucket list fish would be a giant alligator gar like this one. Those are full size hogs.

I will admit that as I have gotten older I am more prone to vertigo and that the ride to the top made me a bit uneasy looking out the elevator windows. But the lounge at the top of the pyramid and the view outside was worth the trip up (not as bad going back down). Most fo the fish up there were steampunk specimens like this musky.

Or this gar and catfish.

Back inside there was the Uncle Bucks Fish Bowl and Grill.

We only spent a few hours here, but had a great time. Oh and I bought fishing tackle, but that was no surprise!

It is a destination spot.  I went last summer on recovery mission during treatment.  My doc wanted to go there for something, we spent several hours.  Memphis has an Orvis shop we visited also that was pretty good.  That area is a warmwater fishery, too far south for trout and too far north for saltwater.

It is unique.  I was never in there before BPS took it over.  Some kind of casino I think.

A few years ago at the old Bass Pro there the clerk told me Memphis had the largest fly tying (or fly fishing) club in the nation and that they all went to Mountain Home to fish. I had expressed surprise at the size and variety of the fly tying department; I think more and better quality than I had seen in the Springfield store. I didn't check the truth of his statements, but he came across as truthful. I didn't find the Orvis store but it may be dependent on the White River also.

Looks like a neat place to visit.  Amazing how much stuff JM has built - the Pyramid, Aquarium in Springfield, and golf courses.   Now that I think of it, I believe the Pyramid was existing and JM took it over and converted it?

The Spring River in Ark is full of fishermen from Memphis, so it stands to reason that Norfolk and White Rivers have a bunch too.

Orvis shop is down town, have to look for it.

It was built by the city as a sports arena 25-30 years ago and taken over by BP 2-3 years ago.  It had been vacant for several years I think. Memphis Grizzlies.

I used to go watch monster trucks, bull riding, and theatrical shows on ice there when I was a kid living just outside of Memphis.

After Memphis decided to do away with history I decided I just wasn't interested in going there. Never liked Nashville. My wife didn't believe me on Nashville but she had to go, she said never again!

Me and Johnny Morris was friends back years ago I wonder if he still remembers me. One time he offered me a Dream Job.

Glad you had a good time.
