I've said that about parking lots, Airports, and malls. "If it saves ONE Life then it's worth it". Isn't that what everyone always says about stuff like that? It's time to allocate some of that tax money to illuminate the bluffs! tjm 1

Old plug Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Well maybe Wrench they should just put street lights all along the bank. Then again it would be nice if they really patrolled the lake to get at the blind drunks. Of course the powers that be around here would not like that I am sure. Friday before memorial day I noticed there were 3 Water patrol boats blocking the lake at the mouth of Mill creek at 10am. I took my coffee and went down on the dock and watched. They never stopped anything like a A cruiser are anything else that looked like it belonged to anyone who might be somebody. Yet they stopped several fishing boats, wave runners, a few small runabouts. Must have been a safety check huh. About 11;30 when it started to get hot they all left and went up to the Barefoot bar. If they would have done that at 10:00 at night they would have gotten a lot of people for drunk boating. I believe they were ordered up there at that time of day for no other reason than to justify a check and avoid upsetting people that need to be checked MoCarp, Daryk Campbell Sr and MOstreamer 2 1

176champion Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 They need those breath analyzers on those rented boats, if you blow into it and you been drinking it won't start, like they have for cars and trucks. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips

I get enough "kill switch" calls, I certainly don't need "won't start" calls because they just drank a beer. MickinMO and Daryk Campbell Sr 1 1
tjm Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Sure you do. Just establish a taxi service and a tow service. when you get there and the ethanol meter has shut the boat down, call your taxi to give them a ride and take the boat in tow for "repairs" Triple your income streams

Drunks are always in a I/O or Inboard. I don't know of a single BWI given to the captain of an outboard powered craft. Not even a pontoon. It's always the "pleasure boat" crowd.

I only say that because our local marine service tech, whom I imagine is around your age, won't work on I/Os anymore either. Says it hurts too much to anymore to have to work bent over or on your hands and knees in a hot engine compartment.

Thankfully I have little experience with Water Patrol, but in general I would have to think there is a level of ease produced by someone who acts like they know boating etiquette, safety, and shows outward respect to LE. Even something as simple as how you approach a checkpoint or properly yield to other boats helps your cause. And who is more likely to do that, your fishing boat and pontoon people who probably grew up being on the water. My grandpa, dad, and two of my buddies dads' growing up gave me a lot of wisdom that you can't just read about to understand. The 25 year old from Chicago driving daddy's cruiser may not have been as fortunate to learn the proper way to boat or handle yourself in front of LE. Yes sir, no sir, eye contact, do not ask questions only answer the questions they ask, do not appear agitated or in a hurry, tell your friends to keep their mouths shut unless they are asked a question, and most of all act interested.
