They are good to eat.  The thing that makes river Smallmouth different is how long it takes them to grow.  If a bunch of us didn't practice C&R all the time then you wouldn't even be able to remember what one tastes like.

Thankfully there is only a couple of Oneshot's on the Niangua. If there were many more that river wouldn't be worth a crap.  So don't poke the lion too hard ol'friend.  😉

I seen a Guy get around eating a short one on the river. Built a fire ate it on the spot. I know still not legal.

I love going to fairs and festivals to eat mystery meat on a stick.  My wife just cringes.

So I was in Springfield tonight to do some shopping for dorm stuff and picked up some bubblegum trick worms. Hopefully taking out a buddy on the river tomorrow evening after floaters are out. He’s never caught a smallie before so hoping to get him hooked. Side note* he doesn’t have a kayak so I’m gonna put him in mine. 2 guys one kayak. I’m sure we will get some looks 🤣
