I will say this, I wouldn't be eating ANY venison ANY time soon...not taking any chances and I am sure I won't be the only one.

its not like pro buy deer hunting paraphernalia advocates aren't getting ahead of this while they can...big $ at stake here,

This might end up being the correct take, but if it is, I'm in trouble. I would say that fully half of my meat intake since early December has been venison or some other form of wild game/fish (don't worry, almost exclusively bluegill in the latter case, lol.) If there is a confirmed/documented case of the disease transferring to humans, I may have to re-evaluate this, but for now the benefits still outweigh the risks for me.

I don't "support" him.  Matter of fact the only time I ever saw him speak I walked out after about 10 minutes.  I suspected insane amounts of wasted funds by the MDC years before LD started crowing about it.

"Wasted" to me, simply means that I believe the funds should be used to do other things.  For example: To ME the money spent collecting beetles, going hog-wild on raising Spoonbill, and using 3/4 ton fully loaded trucks to haul around nothing but laptop computers could be better spent improving Smallmouth habitat and taking measures to police illegal gigging (for starters).

They keep inventing new things to spend  lots of time & money on while so many other TRULY IMPORTANT things get put away unfinished, and I know that the NEW things will get put away unfinished too.  The things I wish they'd stay focused on should be important to YOU and everyone else here too.  My complaint is valid IMO and I'm surprised that nobody else here agrees and thinks I should just SUPPORT them when they have a long standing record of going through money like a hot knife through butter and never finishing anything they start.

FW, there are things I agree with you on.  Every one of us has our "pet peeves" and would live to see more focus on.  For several years I wanted them to stop.worrying about quail, it was a losing fight, and focus on rabbit habitat, could easily increase rabbit numbers and I had beagles, I most certainly wasn't unbiased.  I do uderstand some things like using full sized trucks, they will often be required to bring a boat of varying sizes and launch them in some questionable locations, or haul several hundred pounds of seed, or pull a no till planter, or a trailer with ATV, UTV or other equipment.  Those types of thing are often not seen except by the few people involved.

in that we agree LD is (at least in his writings) not making a legal case..but his writing style isn't that ...its casual, like two people chating at the diner yatching about taxes or city government ...

Dablemont is using his platform to communicate with thousands of individuals through his writing, the same way MDC or any other agency does through their press releases.  There is no rational reason to think Dablemont should be held to a lower standard than the people he attacks.  He isn't having a private conversation in a diner somewhere, he's having a very public conversation, on the record, in which he's attached his name to the words he writes.  You may characterize him as an inconsequential local good ol' boy, MOCarp-  he characterizes himself as an outdoor writer, an author, a syndicated newspaper columnist.  If he wants to be a professional writer, then he should be evaluated at the level of a professional writer.  That means doing research, it means checking sources, it means making certain the things you write are based in fact and holding yourself accountable when they're not.  If Dablemont's work isn't serious, then there's no reason readers should take his unsubstantiated claims seriously.  If Dablemont's work IS serious, he needs to do a better job putting his claims in context and corroborating them with objective evidence.  But he can't have it both ways.

That the NBA isn't knocking down my door isn't evidence teams are conspiring against me.  It's evidence I suck at basketball.  Similarly, the fact Dablemont's work isn't more widely published may have something to do with the caliber of the work- not monied interests or The Man keeping him down.  Newspaper editors have an obligation to be honest with their readers; if Dablemont's work doesn't fulfill that obligation, no wonder editors take a pass.  If money plays any role, low-circulation newspapers probably don't want to risk solvency on a guy who isn't interested in getting the story right.  Can't say I blame 'em.

If you lament the days when journalists had integrity AND you think maybe Dablemont has a point...you might be on the wrong side of this discussion.

I have a huge problem with the whole "freedom of speech" thing.   Early in my life I remember my mom teaching me that if it was written as non-fiction and published by a reputable source then the words were factual.  I think that used to be true (back in the day) but it certainly isn't anymore.  It's actually becoming harder and harder to learn things because it's impossible to know whether or not the information you are absorbing is good or not.

Even the service manuals approved by the manufacturers of the engines I work on are wrong much of the time.

Face it y'all, we are living in a world full of BS.   And we badly need BSPolice.  None of us know WTH we are talking about because we are all being taught 2nd and 3rd hand BS.  It's not a matter of truth anymore, it's a matter of what you've decided (or been programmed) to believe.

LD is not my choice for a BS police force member.

Who is then ?

I wouldn't mind him being on the force.  Not a Captain, but on the force?  Heck yeah.

According to you guys he is finding BS even when there is none.  Surely if there really was some he'd find it.  No?
