in the past the The Archery Trade Association (ATA) says Pneumatic Arrow-Shooting Devices are not "archery" equipment.

 The airbow is a precharged pneumatic device utilizing 3000-psi compressed air to launch a carbon fiber arrow up to eight times on a single charge -- at purported velocities of 450 feet-per-second. Crossman Corporation's Benjamin Pioneer Airbow is one of these, is the compound bow going the way of the longbow?

some states are making this type of hunting legal, yet using a speargun to deer hunt was a no-no...I would love to get feed back from the hard core OAF archers on this issue

I don't particularly care about when/whether this is allowed for deer hunting, but I do get a bit annoyed when people use crossbows and other non-bow things during archery season and call it "bow-hunting". I'm fine with you doing it, I'm fine with it being legal, but it is not bow hunting.* It's like using a glo-ball under a bobber with a spinning rod in the fly area of montauk and calling it fly fishing. No problem with you doing it, but you are not fly fishing. 

*Doesn't apply to folks that are doing it for health/disability reasons.

"what difference does it make?"  Too many deer and too few hunters. I was initially upset with crossbows as an archery  hunting method, but with all the jazz on some compounds and considering that with the let off you can hold one cocked and aimed at an opening (Step out of such an opening into the close up of the blade and you will want to make compounds illegal) I don't see now any difference between a compound and a crossbow and an airbow.  Same is kinda true with the so called "black powder" seasons" using smokeless powder subs and breech loading primers.

If we want primitive only seasons we have to draw some lines on what constitutes primitive, specify for example only long bows or only self bows, perhaps include recurves because  some ancient people used them, so what about takedowns? does that make a bow too modern? peep sights? Where, how, who does the line drawing? Should muzzle loading just allow smooth bore flintlocks? This starts down a long road to increasingly more complicated and obtuse    regulations.

$.02, start the season August 1 and end it December 1 and let folks that buy a permit use whatever means to fill the tag; include all forms of archery, all barreled weapons, slingshots, catapults and claw hammers; establishing a minimum force of impact to cause a humane dispatch, of course. (ie no claw hammers less than 22oz or with less than 18" shaft)

I think precedent for hunting with a charged spear goes back a few hundred years to the whaling  harpoon.

As soon as the leaves start to fall and the deer go crazy from exposure and run helter-skelter looking for a place to hide they will start killing cars and trucks with no regulation on them nor do the deer buy car permits.

According to the Crosman website it's classified as an airgun, not a bow, and falls into the alternative methods season. There's still a bit of a gray area though, as a legal airgun for big game needs to be .40 cal or larger, I don't know how a bolt fits into that, although Crosman says it's legal here.

IMO, anything used in the archery season needs to be powered by limbs and a string.

I really don't care either way, there's too many deer in this area.

 My opinion is this belongs  in the alternative method season along with any device that maintains an arrow in a cocked and ready position at all times i.e. crossbows.

Shouldn't a little more time pass before another controversy gets brought up?   Hell we didn't even solve anything with the last one.     I refuse to operate like MDC and start new projects before even knowing which direction the old ones are going.

Oh Hey,.  If you have a Save-A-Lot near you they have a brand called Morning Delight (or something like that) back in the bisquit cooler.    They put Pillsbury and all the others to shame.  My wife will only make one roll at a time because she knows I will hurt myself if there are more available.
