I think I have midges down pretty decent so now I'm moving onto egg flies. I can tie jigs, Micro jigs and midges but my egg flies suck. I need tips or hints. I've watched a dozen you tube videos and mine just don't look good. Ugh. Frustrating.  These are on a size 6 hook FYI.

Use a stiff thread to cinch it down tight.  Then sharp scissors to cut to a round pattern.

Don't use too many thread wraps.

5 wraps, apply egg yarn, 3 wraps, whip finish. McFlyfoam makes the best egg yarn. Dunno if they sell it anymore, but have a lifetimes worth. Ask Laker67 about fur bugs and fur bug yarn. Similar to an egg but better. Beads will outfish any glo ball.

just put beads on a hook?  what size or kind of bead?  we talking something you can get at a craft store or something special I need to buy somewhere else?  Also thanks for the tip on the McFlyfoam, I just ordered some of that.  I would like to know more about the beads as well so I can make both.

I like an egg fly on a small jig hook.  I also tie them on scud hooks.  Use ultra GSP thread to pull the foam tight.  It's stupid strong and slick.

what size of jig and any idea on a hook size?  I pour my own heads so I could do this as well for a variety.
