What river?

We ran alot of rivers in the 60's-70's and knew nothing of any "guides", except for the ones on the White and the upper Mississippi.  And they were all commercial fishermen/drunks.

Who did you have to be in order to get a guide referral in Missouri back then?

Can you imagine hiring a 12 year old for a guide 😊  Just carry along some Skittles for a tip.

I get it.

I guess you will have to get the story from him.

It is tough to really know anyone through youtube or a forum. What I do know of Jerry, I like, as of yet I have no reason to doubt him. Maybe he worked for someone or maybe "guide" meant something different back then?

Either way he seems interesting to me, I thought that he might be interesting to others as well.

Wades have been guiding on the BP for eons.

Larry Dablemont used to guide on BP as well I believe.

Don't forget Owen Boat Lines out of Branson, grand-daddy of float outfitters.

He seems interesting to me too. I wasn’t calling him a liar, not at all. But sometimes in life you find something that you think nobody has ever thought of, and then you find out different.

I’m going to check out his other videos.

Nice guy for sure, I've been watching his stuff for quite awhile.  He has that Harold Ensley thing going on.  Very PC, and he does a fine job of editing and putting together videos.

He said he didn't think of it until the 90's. I learned it from my dad back in the 70's. He learned it back in the 50's. I taught to my son just after the turn of the century.

That's only about the 5th guy that I've heard take credit for that particular modification.   😂

The one thing that all have in common is the claim that the old crusty vinyl skirts of yesteryear are the preferred material. That little detail right there indicates that it originated from somewhere other than the minds of all but one of the guys claiming it.

That tweek has been a thing with old river fishermen since back before crankbaits had lips on them.  I first saw it done to surface plugs and Lazy Ike's back in the early 70's.  Along with backward skirts put on the brush guard of the old Johnson Silver Minnow spoons.

I don't know of anyone that liked those junkyass vinyl skirts. We always like the flat rubber skirts. Can't find them anymore except for those on H&H spinners. They had the best action! But they wouldn't last long. After a few trips they just melted all over the place.

The vinyl or when we could find them the good rubber skirts were standard fare on the old midge-o-renos back in the 70s.  We put skirts on lots of lures, mostly it seemed to kill their natural wobbling action.  Sort of lie putting a big ole pork rind on a Johnson Silver Minnow, it worked but the JSM action was completely lost.  Don't believe I ever put one on a lazy ike,,always loved those as is.
