The concept behind good gun shops is you buy what you want and go shoot it.  If you like it, you put it in a safe and go buy another.  When you find one you don't like as well as another in the shop, you trade it for the new one.  Soon, you will need another safe.

Or find a friend with a bunch of guns and try out the ones you like, then go to the gun shop and buy one like it.

Handguns can often be run for the cost of the ammo or a nominal rental at many ranges; I recently tried out a P320 compact while at my local range...and that is likely going to cost me the price of a new one before I’m done 😬.

I have checked all the ranges around Springfield and none of them have any handguns and they do not have rental programs. I may see if there are any places around Joplin.

Friends, ask around someone probably has one.  Guns, firearms, weapons, bang sticks etc, call em whatever makes you happy.

Good suggestion. Unluckily I don't have any friends who have handgun(s).

What are you interested in owning?  I have a Ruger stainless 40 cal that I'd part with.  Comes with case, holster and 2 clips.  If you are interested I'd let you test fire it at my farm.

Dutch, thanks for the offer. It sounds like this may be too much kick for my wife to handle. What do you think?

True.  Considering guns "Weapons" is what got us all into the mess we're in where Guns are concerned.

A dude on the airgun forum always calls them "weapons" and I'd like to shove a dirty sock down his throat so he can call that a weapon too.

The worst most damaging weapon ever developed is words.

Its been a long time so I may be on the wrong shop but I think sounds of freedom in Nixa has a pretty large selection of handguns they will let you shoot in the on-site range.

There is a range on Gravois in St Louis that rents all types by the hour. Has a nice BBQ restaurant in front. It would make a good road trip.
