Attaching Leaders

When you seasoned veterans attach a leader. Do you prefer a direct tie from line to leader, or do you prefer some kind of swivel or clip? These are the simple things I could use a little schooling on.   No arguing please! My therapist says it makes it impossible to deal with me. lol Mike

Fly fishing or conventional?

Either way I do line to leader no clip.  Unless it's a Carolina rig but I haven't drug that around in years.

 Good question. There may be no arguments but lots of answers. I use a surgeons knot with three to four twists and lots of spit and a slow draw down to seat the knot. With my fat and cold jig fest fingers this worked best for me. Did not loose any fish from knot failure and I would say 50 50 on knot breakage due to snags on junction of braid or jig tie in point.  I used 10 nano and 6 to 8 lb leader and did recover some snagged jigs by bending hooks. I know the guys throwing 4 mono out caught me.

Fly fishing??? Heck that's for people that can walk and chew gum at the same time. Conventional.

Alberto knot.  Line or braid to leader.

Alberto knot for nano to leader UNLESS I’m being lazy. Lazy mode is surgeons knot with three passes instead of the two passes I would do if attaching mono to mono

Double uni I found works well. fairly simple and reliable.

 i like to use a blood knot or uni. i have also used the shocker knot with small diameter mono to mono

What he said, Alberto knot for my Nanofil to mono leaders.  Took me a long time to get it right for some reason but now I use it all the time.

Tried Alberto knot this weekend.With Double Uni knot that I have used when I get a lure snagged and had to break off it would always break at the knot. With the alberto it most often broke at the lure saving me from having to tie on a new leader. Thanks
