Quillback Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Braid on a spinning reel eliminates all that line twist/loop stuff. You can add a leader at whatever pound test or type (mono or fluoro) you want. snagged in outlet 3, Seth and dan hufferd 3

I can get more that 60 yards with this rig, but only 10lb braid 1/2oz weight. 6'6" medium fast lighting rod lews tournament ts200. I wonder if I can play a striper down on that😁? I never thought about distance until now, just fish.

Never used modern braid and I have question for you all, with the tiny diameters now available do you need leader? and why? Then the other question is related to the OP ?, how far; let's say that you can comfortably cast 70 yards, 210' , 64m - I used to have a spinning rig that would let me get pretty close to that (and I haven't used in years) So, the cast goes out and out and settles into the water with barely a splash; how far away from you can you detect a strike and get a hook set? about what is the farthest distance you have caught a fish? That is where braid shines you can feel alot ! I can feel a 1/2 spoon flutter down on a long cast. If there is a bunch of wind you you have to watch the line as the spoon goes down, but if a fish hits it you know quickly. Cons: it blows in the wind some, you have to have cutters. Palomar knot is a must. Price, having to tie a leader, it will cut your hand if you try to brake it. Pros: No stretch, great sensitivity, it's like having a new rig, it lasts a long time, if you don't store it in the sun. Really good hook sets. I buy the coated stuff, I have tried at least 6 different brands. I like the spiderwire stealth braid. They do not give me money to say that, I wish they would. I use it on everything to spite the cons. Hope that helps Seth and Johnsfolly 2
Seth Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I'm not sure how far I can cast to be honest. Aside from my crankbait setup, I ended up spooling up my reels with some old well used 65# Power Pro so they only hold about 50-60 yards of line. Most of my fishing in close quarters so no reason to have an entire spool of high dollar fluorocarbon. I believe that was a tip Aaron Martens posted on YouTube. Makes it much easier to stomach dropping the money on high dollar line when you can spool up three or four times instead of just once. My spinning reels for bass have 15# braid on them and I use a 10-15' fluorocarbon leader. It's not much that I want the leader to keep fish from seeing the line as it is that if I break off, I'm only going to lose leader instead of the high dollar braid. Hiding the line is just a bonus. snagged in outlet 3, dan hufferd and Johnsfolly 3
