Went Saturday and Sunday both. Fished bluffs that in years past have always been great for crappie in this water temp. One fish is all we caught. Switched to several brush piles in the 15 to 20 foot range. Not one fish. Tried brush piles in the CC, Stockton State park,  and twin bridges area. Nothing at all. Not even a bite. I guess I need to go. I have to have a good cry.  lol

Twin Bridges - Water stained, 5 ft visibility, shad on the surface. 51F

CC - Water stained, 3 ft visibility, 48F

Stockton State park area - Light stain, 7 foot visibility, 52F. lots of nice bass (up to 3 lbs) at 20 to 25 feet.

I was out on Saturday from the dam down to State Park, whatever that big island is called between the main lake arms.

In 2 hours I had 6 keeper crappie and a few shorts. I caught fish on just about every pile that I hit, but some were better than others. It was definitely a one here, one there type of afternoon.

I was using a 1/16 oz jig and a blue ice baby shad. Almost all of them whacked it on a dead stick. No movement was best.

I call those “One & done piles”, and I’ve had plenty of one-fish brush piles over the past month.  But when you find the right pile.......!   But mainly I think it’s hitting a pile when the fish are active, because I can promise you almost every one of those brush piles has a bunch of crappie in them.  Thump Thump! 🎣

Curious. Did not mark hardly any fish on most brush piles or the bluffs. The bluffs are a particular puzzle for me and the wife. For twenty years when the water temperature was between 45 and 66 we would consistently catch good stringers of crappie (10 to 20) on very steep, almost vertical bluffs without exception. We had 3 bluffs we focused on. In the last 3 years this bite has completely disappeared. We averaged a little over 4 crappie a trip 4 years ago and this year it is only0.5 crappie a trip. Yup, that sucks..

The bluff bite has gone away for me too.  We used to catch a bunch on them.  Two of us fished 6 hours last week for 4 keepers and 1 short.  They were all in the 30’ range.

 My electronics don’t show crappie around the piles and my electronics aren’t good enough to look into the piles but that’s where I’m finding them.    But again you have to be on a pile that’s active or you catch very few if any.

BTW, I'd like to find a "one and done" when it comes to bowhunting.
