-------!  Ketchup and I won a whole gallon of special tire cleaner when we fished that derby last year.   I told him to take it cuz he had a motorcycle and I had no use for high dollar tire cleaner.

Wouldn't ya know!  😏

I remember years ago running my line over a bar of Ivory soap to clean it while camped, and I think the wax? glycerin? in the soap made that line cast better for a while, but it could be just getting the dirt off made it better.

That's a good idea.   I'm gonna try that.

I use warm water with a few drops of Dawn detergent and then treat it with Mucilin green once it is dry.

I also clean the rod and guides from time to time.  The buildup around the guides slows things down too, wears on the line.

Toothbrush and soapy water.

Wrench,  if you can wait a couple days,  in sure I have a couple samples of 303 I can send you.  They are somewhere in the garage.  I have your card still.

I appreciate it, but I can get some.  I need to place an order for shop supplies soon anyway.

I got the RIO Agent X kit today that comes with a mildly abrasive cleaning cloth, the instructions say to clean and dry the line, apply the goop liberally and let it set 24 hours, then buff it dry.     Apparently it isn't just a coating, it actually soaks into the line.   Whatever the goop is it is white, has the consistency of watered down toothpaste and smells like nothing, has no odor at all.    I'll get busy with it later this evening.

If you have a chemist friend he can tell you what the stuff is pretty quick I bet. It seems unlikely to me that an entire plant is set up just manufacture a few hundred tubes of paste wax, but I've always been a bit of a skeptic.   They do say the Wonder Cloth is "mildly abrasive".

I use the "wonder cloth" to polish brass and other metals.  I doubt it will be good on a fly line.

Ok well the RIO Agent X stuff is really REALLY good.   It drives me crazy to let it soak all night long because once I start cleaning line I just wanna get it done the same evening, but it feels like it's gonna last quite awhile.

The micro abrasive cloth that comes in the kit does a great job of scrubbing off the crud too.  Alot of what I thought was cracked line was just baked on crud.  It smoothed up nice.  👍
