He lived another 29 years and the ribbing he took from his buddies was great.  No better beer drinking Story around the campfire than that.

Glad he lived a good long time after that! My father had a heart attack at 64 and lived till he was 90. I’d say they both did well!

Hey @snagged in outlet 3 , back in the day, there used be be some big browns caught on that stretch....what’s the biggest brown you’ve ever heard of taken from there?

Waiting for what Snagged's biggest is...mine was 22 inches, and that was before I started fly fishing; caught it on a deep diving crankbait.  A buddy of mine caught a 29 incher, a couple days after he'd caught a 29 inch rainbow...well, he was fishing with big streamers after dark.

Now you know the real story I was referring to.

Not very embarrassing in the least.

I didn’t know the outcome of the heart attack so I kept my mouth shut. Nothing to do with embarrassment.

Honestly I don't remember any particularly large fish but at the time we were going to Taney, The White and Norfork quite a bit.  And those were the hay days of the tailwaters and big fish.  Back then a lunker was 5 pounds and we caught plenty of them on the tailwaters.  What I do remember is you could go down there and catch nice fish and plenty of them without going into the parks.  It wasn't unusual to have 20-30 fish day for a couple guys.

What we really talked about was not only the decline in that area starting in the 90's, but how quickly the fishing below Scott's Ford declined.  Which we thought happened overnight it seemed.  We probably fished below Scott's Ford as much as the Cardiac Access.  We would catch browns, rainbows and smallies out of the same hole.  Lots of them and nice ones.  And then it just seemed to be over.  Not that you couldn't do the same thing today but not nearly the quantity and quality like it was before.

In the late 80's my buddy had a Toyota Tercel 4 wheel drive wagon and I would lift the cable at Cardiac and he would drive under it and down to the river.  So we could drive out at the end of the day.:D  We did that many times until one day the owner and the sheriff were waiting at the top of the hill for us.  We did some real talking that day to keep our butts out of jail.  Apparently we had slipped away several times before he could the sheriff there.  At one point in the conversation I even tried to get personal access but he wasn't having it.

Do you think any of the browns in that stretch were gigged?

Yes and are currently gigged.  And smallies taken out of season and undersized ones kept.

You would have to be an ignorant fool to think there isn’t straight poaching going on there. The one time we called the authorities we were fishing at dry Fork and a small jet went by, so we went upstream and when we peered around a bend we see the Two guys gigging at 3:30 pm??? Oh it was 03/17/2001 friggin losers They saw us walking back up a quickly shot back down stream but, they were gigging. Nothing happened as far as I know we even gave them their boat numbers. So yeah if they will poach in broad daylight out of season monkey dodo.... did you know right now you can gig gamefish all night and day long as long as you don’t possess them???
