I have a bloom on one of my Cherokee Purple tomato plants. 😎

We put out a bunch of flowers on Saturday.  Hauled everything portable into the house and covered everything else. The buckets tarp and blankets kept everything safe.  Glad I put them under cover  both nights - we had heavy frost both times.  The only damage was a couple of leaves on parsley that must have been in contact with the tarp when it got good and cold.  Success!

Tomatoes don't like cold feet.  Ready to see some 80's and sunshine.  They will really take off then.  They're about a foot tall or maybe a little more and ready to get with the program.

They don't like wet feet either! Go away rain,

Some of ours are a foot or more tall too. Several starting to bloom. Would like a tomato soon but if these first blooms done make it, it will be ok. Would rather go to plants initial growth spurt. Peppers look like crap. Two croaked so I bought replacements. A serrano and a Marconi to take their place. Stupid cool weather. My new bee colony haven't been out of the hive for two days. Well heck I haven't been out to do much for days either.

I had volunteer Tomatoes come up. Transplanted them where I wanted.

They did great.

I have replaced several tomatoes with store bought. Mine started getting the plague while still in the pots. Planted the best -- none left for my uncles this year. Only a couple left in the garden that are home started at this point. Oh well, at least I got the varieties I wanted.

Man I wish you or other members were closer. We started a full starter tray. I am not sure how many it held but a bunch. Overplant because you never know what may happen to your starts. So in the ground we planted fifteen plants. The rest were given away. I actually think hold 78 plants. Do the math more left than stayed.

There are blooms today on both the Cherokee Purples and also both of the heirloom Big Beef.  With all the rain, who knows what the future holds.  I did put down some crushed oyster shells so there will not be a shortage of either calcium or magnesium.  Given the wet cool weather, things out there look surprisingly good.  I do need my little Stihl M66 cultivator back from the engine shop though.  Or weeds will get too good of a start.  Used the garden weasel yesterday on the hilled stuff.  Too hard and too much for that thing around the tomatoes though.

I'm pinching off blooms right now. Want the energy going into the plants at this point. Also put down grass clipping mulch around the maters and peppers today.

How long should we pinch them off?

I’m just doing it until they’re established well. Maybe another couple weeks?

I've  been doing that to my wife's plants. She has stopped telling me that there are any flowers😉
