Members Scott Keling Posted February 23, 2020 Members Posted February 23, 2020 Just picked up my brand new ranger with 200 proxs 4 stroke yesterday. Plan on running 91 octane without ethanol. Even though the manufacturer says 10% ethanol is fine. I know they make money selling parts too. My last boat lasted me 19 years and I got good money for a trade. And it’ll make someone a good boat. I used 91 w/o ethanol must of the time. And never had any motor troubles. What you folks think?
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 If I could get ethanol free gas I would burn it in all my vehicles and boat.
MrGiggles Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 I've used ethanol in everything for the last decade and have never really had a fuel related issue on my own stuff. Have fixed plenty of them on other folks stuff though. I think it is a good idea, you will get marginally better fuel economy without the corn squeezins', but it will rarely cause a problem on stuff that was designed for it, severe cases of neglect aside. My Stihl weedwhacker has been hanging in the garage for two years (ethanol gas, premixed), and I would pretty much bet money that it will start right up. Always has. Went cordless and never use the gas one anymore. Daryk Campbell Sr 1 -Austin
Dutch Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 The big problem with ethanol according to the guys who do my tech work is what it did to older gas lines. That being said I only run 91 non ethanol in my Verado. 3 1/2 years and hasn’t missed a beat. Btw: Bull is already high. River Run not useable. When are you heading down? Let’s see a pic of that new rig.
Members Scott Keling Posted February 23, 2020 Author Members Posted February 23, 2020 Yeah I’ve been watching the water level. Supposed to be at power pool March 8th. Fingers are crossed. We sold are cabin and have reservations at a place in Forsyth from March 13th through the 22nd. I haven’t learned how to put pictures on here and I get crap for it when I mention how many fish I’ve caught. I’ll text you a picture from yesterday. And if you do a search on you tube ( ranger 1880 ms) it’s the red and silver one stock # R818
Members gwh Posted February 23, 2020 Members Posted February 23, 2020 Problem with ethanol fuel is you need to keep it fresh. Moisture is its worst enemy. Use a stabilizer and only buy what you are going to burn. I empty my tank for the three months I don't use the boat in the winter.
MOPanfisher Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 I always use ethanol free just because it doesn't hurt anything. I have had ethanol fuel separate in my leaf blower. The guy working on it simply poured the fuel out into a clear jar and it was pretty easy to see. I dumped it out poured in fresh fuel and life was good again. Annoying in a leaf blower or weedeater, more so in a boat motor. I even siphon out the old ethanol free fuel from.my boat tank and go back with fresh fuel in the spring, sadly I don't use my boat enough to keep the fuel all the time, it also gets some sea foam in the spring because again I don't think it hurts a thing and I have it around usually.
fishinwrench Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Part of my initial testing consists of taking a fuel sample. 50% of guys from out of town say "I only use non-ethanol fuel". According to this So far, 100% of that 50% have been mistaken. If you think you're buying fuel with less than 10% alcohol I challenge you to test it. tjm 1
tjm Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 gosh, you mean those retailers would lie about it for 10-20 cents a gallon more money?
