Bet the onboard RPM circuitry/eprom for the motor recorded a spike in RPM :P.....never good for resale... but looking at the sponsors I'm guessing not a big deal.

Don’t outboards have rev limiters?

I believe they do but on My Suzuki 175... the onboard eprom could be pulled to show the RPM history...helps to see if you "Jumped it" hit the rev limiter ....so you didnt make it go POP/poof/ewww/ouch :P  anyway those rev limits are tracked to show how much/how many times it hit that threshold. when buying used I always look at the report!!!

Running like a fool does nothing but tear your stuff up.  Just cause you can doesn't mean you should.

Yeah but sometimes the weather changes on ya and you have no choice. That boat could be running 20 mph in those shots.

My Dad always said if it gets to rough beach the boat and hunker down or walk out if you need to.  Too many folks especially duck hunters die needlessly every year for trying to out run the conditions and failing to wear a life jacket.  Watch the contestants run  the main lake on their way back to PB2 on a sunny June Saturday afternoon with the cruisers out and about..  Most aren't running 20 mph, but they are sure beating up their equipment and probably any fish in the livewell.

IMO a true professional would have studied the weather trends, and should know the characteristics of the body of water, enough to not put himself in that position.

If that means fishing all day within sight of the launch ramp.....so be it.

I'd feel confident betting that neither of the boats in the pics above had the winning sack.   😊
