We went back again tonight...trying to teach my son to tow a boat...launch it himself and all that tommy rot.  He’s doing good...he needs the boating license though so I plan to have him do it this weekend online

we’re catching quite a few small bass...water temp is 64...we didn’t even try for crappie tonight.  the fish seemed  slower tonight but we still caught several...I assume because it’s supposed to freeze tonight...we’re having fun...and it’s pretty sweet to have a driver

the youngest went tonight too...he caught more than either of us...it was pretty cold once the sun went down 76E2F6BB-8F4D-4914-9170-ED90895BD1C4.jpeg

Oldest is scouting for turkeys too...he bought a license...and a tag.  I didn’t.  Ks is close to us...closer than our better turkey spot.  So hopefully he can figure it out...wish I had the setup he has as an 18 year old...I need to fix that marker light on the trailer...gosh I hate to bother wrench again ✌️

Just saw on Kansas website that they’ve closed spring turkey hunting to out of state residents

If you already bought a tag...they will allow you to hunt...but says they encourage refunds

i wonder if they’ll do the same with fishing

What pits are you fishing?  I wish I would have taken advantage of the pits growing up there.  We did a Boy Scout camp out once somewhere in the pits -- couldn't tell you where.  Went snake hunting with a friend once.  Just didn't take the time to learn about them.

Over by west mineral and hallowell.  I can’t remember the numbers very good...but we’ve got 6 or 8 that we like to fish...but really I’ll try any of them.

If someone is on the one we’re planning to fish...we just move to a different one.

I like the isolation...and lately it’s been a good place for son to learn to use the boat.

Lots of wildlife of all types...sometimes it feels like you might see a dinosaur in one the little cuts

once we had a herd of 10 or 12 big...Tatonka...bucks...swim across the pits right in front of us.  It was like watching a caribou migration on National Geographic channel. The deer did a swan dive off one side...swam across and then climbed up the other side.  It was unreal...that was on Father’s Day probably 10 years ago

Couple more...only fished about an hour.  Big fish was 18.5

Wind was really whipping around

Surprised no white caps out on that water! lol

There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

I hear ya...might not look windy but it was.  I used trolling motor to get out of the wind to take pictures

That’s one thing about strip pits...is that the high sides protect you from the wind.

we checked quite a few before splashing it in on this one due to the wind.

Where we were catching the fish was exposed to the wind...water went from 40 feet to 2 feet...straight up...on an exposed point.  The bank on that side had to be 25 feet in air
