Jim wants to open July 4 but plans on in August.  It would be a heck of a deal.

Sean says about 25% of the commercial fleet won't go this year. 

I bet a lot of the workers will go up early and the canneries will put them up for free to do their 14-q.

Samaritan's Purse is building a tent hospital in Naknek for the cannery workers.

 My understanding is the Natives aren't willing to take a risk on you being pure and clean, airstrips closes to keep foreigners out, villages won't even let family members return from town if that's where they were at shutdown.  Numbers of homeless in the cities increased because of those closures and strandings.    In state air carriers gone bankrupt, I read, so once in AK a feller might find getting to the fish a problem.

Alaska Air has agreed to pick up where Ravn left off and service the villages that have real airports.  The other villages are serviced by private air service.

You're right - that's the reason.  But there's no way those remote villages can stay completely isolated from the outer world seeing they get almost everything flown in.

Alot of these villagers make a living on the lower 48er's - hunting, fishing, birders, kayakers, hikers and such.  I guess the state will have to feed and clothe them for a while.

After the gong show with the Airlines and daily talks with the nice ladies at Alaska airlines I found out the issue was related to permits from the feds in order to add more flights. I called several charter companies in Anchortown looking for an easy way up.  For an extra 150 each way you can charter your own float plane or wheelie into King salmon.  Nobody knows how long the 14 day quarantine will last.  Like most places it is becoming political, The borough managers figured out without the 5% landing tax the fleet pays and other taxes from the tourist segment they would cease to exist without a bailout.  Like the stock market and most things,  increased risk usually leads to higher rewards.  The fishing could be epic with little competition.

Been to AK several times, you will have a great experience. Out this year, kitchen remodel on the agenda. Air travel is probably safe. My buddy Scuba is a Flight Attendant, he was flying all over until a month ago. Wore his PPE, and got nothing, 60, smokes, drinks. Been home for a month and laid off still no issues.

I'm always happy to hear something good.  Especially about an older guy who smokes, drinks and doesn't have it. That's my plan too.
