I don't think 30k would get you a lake.  Maybe a cattle pond...😂

I have a dam 1/3 the way across a little spring fed ravine, that when completed will be a 3.5 acre pond 18-22'deep with standing timber.  So far it has cost me nothing.  😊

That's cool!  I googles property for sale with lakes in MO and you better sock away about $400K plus.  Couldn't really find anything other than similar to this.

The road crew is tearing out a lake road and redoing it soon.  I told them they could dump the old busted up asphalt along my dam.  Do you think that's a bad idea?   I'm not sure if that was a smart move on my part...but I need the fill.

2.5 miles of busted up pavement would probably finish my dam off, pretty close I bet.   In trade for letting them dispose of it there they said they would supply guard railing where the pond runs up next to the road.

Of course this is a business expense.....cuz I need a place to back trailers into for test running boats. 😊

Do you think old asphalt leeches out enough oil to be harmful to a micro-fishery?

Man I don't know.  You probably need a biologist to answer that...😂   Maybe @Johnsfolly would have some insight??   Besides the oil I think other chemicals are added to it.

What I DON'T want is a 3.5 acre mosquito lagoon directly across the road from my porch.

I wouldn't want a bunch of old asphalt as my main dam material.  Not only leaching issues, but pourous.  But maybe you can get most of the fill done and come back over the front and top with a few loads of good clay, and compact it in.  Check your watershed, need to get rid of the inflow either by pipe or spillway, preferably both.

Yeah it isn't my first choice either, but I need alot of fill....and that plus the road base underneath it's available for free.   The first portion is old concrete seawall, boulders, and road base from when they built Coconut's (about 40 loads of it).  I figured it would go further than it did, but I have quite a ways to go yet.   I'll snap some pics the next time I have to mow down there.  Below the dam is where I park boats that don't get picked up and paid for in a timely manner. 😊

Nothing worse than a slow payer.  I’d like to see some pictures.

The base/core material definoty needs to be more of a clay impermeable type material, if it isn't the dam will never hold up under normal conditions, let alone stress/flood.  Also need a way to safely pass water over, though or around. Also I seem to remember that if it is over a certain. Height or size then it becomes part of the national registry of dams and I think the DNR inspects them, not sure on that.
