Gumboot Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 My wife has a 6 cyl 2011 AWD Highlander, I believe it would tow a 19' f&s, but it wouldn't be ideal. My 09 expedition towed my Ranger Reata 190 just fine. You don't need a 3/4 ton truck to pull these boats.
MrGiggles Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Tow ratings vary quite a bit between different configurations of a given vehicle. You'll need the spec for the engine/drivetrain package that your Highlander has. The 4 cyl base model is probably not rated to tow anything, while the V6 AWD version will pull quite a bit. FWD is not very good on boat ramps, gravity is working against you, but a lot of people do it. -Austin

I saw a guy burn about half his tread off on a ramp last year with FWD. I offered to pull him up but he said he's got it. Pretty cool to watch though

That sumbitch wouldn't pull a sick Ho out of bed. I always seasoned the air at boat ramps with the pleasant smell of hot asbestos. snagged in outlet 3 1

If your Highlander is 4WD you shouldn't have any problem towing the boat you are looking at. The 4WD Highlander we had, while we never towed anything with it, had a good 4WD system that got us out of a few sticky situations in the snow and mud. Wet and slimy ramps are the main issue with towing a boat with a FWD vehicle. I just realized I was thinking Sequoia not Highlander. I don't know that I would want a Highlander as a primary two vehicle. Is it based on a car platform??

I'm glad Ford got away from that with the newest Explorer. The previous one was based on the Taurus, and now it's RWD based again. The FWD Explorer was not good. dtrs5kprs and snagged in outlet 3 2 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

One of mine has a Focus and it's a piece of trash. I bet Ford has spent at least 5K on warranty repairs for that thing. We've had a lot of problem with them as company cars too. I won't ever own another one.
