I seem to recall a conversation where a similar situation was discussed and particularly the length of time that a certain manufacturer was obligated to maintain a supply of parts. It seemed to me that time frame was based upon the time that the equipment would become obsolete or no longer than 5 or 10 yrs whichever came first. I certainly would not expect in f here circumstances that parts would be available indefinitely.

I don't quite think so.   Probably just the opposite is true.

There are enough die-hard Evinrude enthusiasts out there that it's quite possible your Evinrude just doubled in value overnight.

If anybody has one they'd like to unload, hit me up.

we will see how the nada or kelly blue book goes.  that is what the bank goes by to loan money.  ever heard the old saying "spit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one gets full first.  so, guess we will see how the loan value holds up on them.

I looked and found a couple of online (grain of salt) references that state that auto manufacturers are obligated to supply parts through the length of the longest warranty period. If that is the case here then 7 years from now parts manufacturing could be discontinued as well.

First boat I bought in the 90s was a '78 Ranger with a 115 Evinrude on it. Same model year. We nursed that thing along and kept rpms low based on advice from by buddy's dad. Guy who bought it from us tried to run it all out and blew it up within two weeks. We tried to tell him when he was looking at it because he kept asking how fast it could go. Well, it can go about 45-50 mph, but you want to keep it around 30mph and run a max of 5000 rpms. He didn't take our advice.

No reason for that, other than you had the wrong guy working on it.   😏

Quite a bit of talk out there today and you can take it with a grain of salt, but word is that Evinrude was offered to Johnny Morris at a very good price, along with Alumacraft of the BRP boat lines and he refused it.  It is 2 stroke technology, very good 2 stroke tech and probably better than Yamaha 4 stroke.  Better on fuel and that is a shame on you to Yamaha for sure.  I have no idea why Yamaha cannot fix their fuel consumption to at least be competitive but its seems they cannot.

Johnny did not want or need another alum. boat line, let alone a pontoon line

Really about the only new boats that currently were running Evinrudes was Ranger and Vexes plus the Alumacraft, Telwater and Manitou Pontoons and I think Johnny had his finger in no more Evinrudes on Rangers.

BP is strictly Mercury on all their brands and I think he means for it to stay that way.  10's of millions in back end money.  You want a Triton or a Ranger with something else you may be out of luck.  As for Triton they are hanging on by a toenail and I'm guessing about as close to gone as the Foo Foo bird.  Lots of their long time pro's are jumping ship like rats from a sinking vessel.

We are really on the verge of Ranger, Nitro, Phoenix, Bass Cat and Skeeter and yes I know there are some upstarts, but those are the big boys and they are going to get their share off the top.

I had to call Skeeter about a month ago to ATTEMPT TO get some info on a guage cluster panel they used a couple years ago and I got the impression that they are not long for this world either.

They offered no information whatsoever, and made no attempt to give me any directions or ideas on what to do.

They were just like.... "Hmm, nope, can't help ya, sorry".

You noticed my last boat on the list.  If they are to sustain Texas will have to keep them alive and it just seems to me Phoenix is just taking over down there.  I watch a couple of those Texas Pro Fishing Circuits, I think there is maybe 3 or 4 that are on the 3 outdoor networks quite a bit and you see a few Skeeters, but by far the majority are Ranger and Phoenix and I don't think I have ever seen anything down there that was not powered by Black, outside of the few Skeeters you see.

Etecs are fairly popular in the outboard jet world around this area, but the guys I talk to that fished bass tournaments said that Mercury outnumbered Etecs 30 to 1. It's a shame they couldn't have just down sized and filled a niche market instead of axing them totally. It is what it is though. I'm not sure what other option there really is for outboard jet dealers who sell a lot of the bigger horsepower engines besides Mercury now. Yamaha doesn't really offer a good option. I've seen some SHO's with jet pumps, but was told that the warranty is voided when they get jetted.

Evinrude jets had nitches, where our friend Jim Johnson has his Lodge in Alaska at King Salmon its all Etec jets.  Down on the White River in Arkansas its all Merc jets and most other places in Alaska it is pretty much Merc. jet and Yamaha or Honda outboards.  You will see a few Suzuki outboards but not many Merc straight outboards other than jets.

You go to Florida or the Texas Coast and its 70% Verado.

I think the nitches are mostly due to service centers where you can buy and get them worked on.
