Iโ€™ve hired guides all over the place and thatโ€™s not been my experience.   The best ones explained where we are going, why and what he thought we should expect.   If I want hear BS I come hear. And poof!   Here you are.  ๐Ÿ˜

You sir, are an experienced fisherman.

Life as a guide isn't as full of days sharing a boat with guys like you....as you might think.

More often than not (at least here on this lake) you are babysitting.

Ok.  I did have a couple that wanted me to cast at the dock before we took off.  Fly fishing.  The guy in the Bahamas smiled and said โ€yeah, weโ€™re gonna have a good dayโ€.  And we did.  Pictures are the paper kind or I would post them.

Lots of those types here, especially the sammich maker part. Come to think of it, that might be all their good for. ๐Ÿ˜œ

A good guide will spend at least a few minutes on the phone with you and quiz you about your expectations for the trip. Is the purpose purely for entertainment or is the client looking to learn something? What is their experience level? What style of fishing do they enjoy or do they care? If a guide isn't willing to discuss the above things and perhaps more on the phone, he's probably not your guy.
