Smithvillesteve Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 limits of walleyes and now 4-5 lb bass? Whats next for you Lmtout? Win the powerball? I'm bringing a coaching buddy of mine down this wed afternoon. Gonna target walleyes wed evening and thurs morning. Will probably launch at New Orleans and fish the main lake area. Will probably start with spin rigs with a nightcrawler. Maybe troll flickershads if no luck with the worm harness. Maybe drift a jig with a crawler if the winds are good for that. Might even try a flickershad on a bottom bouncer. Any advice you could give would be deeply appreciated. My buddy, his brother and Dad went down last year and hired a guide. They were not real impressed with the guy. I wont mention any names. I told him you would be the man i would recommend right now. Am i trolling for some advice? Yes i am.
rps Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Steve, if the water is still up in the trees/bushes and dingy, start just outside the trees and bushes with a smile blade bottom bouncer worm rig at about 1 to 1.2 mph. If you do not connect work out to the deeper water. High water changes what you expect. Do not get me wrong, the walleye may very well be in 20 fow, but many, many people miss the shallow bite in high, colored water. Lindy rigs would bee my second choice. Minnow tipped, 1/8 - 3/16 jigs with long casts on flat points would be my third try. Flicker shads would be my fourth. Good luck. Oh, btw, if you find too many bluegill, you are close. Walleyedmike 1

In my opinion and you know what those r like. Lol. RPS and I would give about the same advise as I have found bottom bouncing in the 10 to 15 ft deep has been the best for us. We r using northland tackle butterfly blade floaters. They do not get hung nearly as much. Target those depths with good structure near by ie. Brush or a good drop off, Dip or rock pile. Pulling .8 to 1.1 for us. Also. Jigging raps but. You will loose a lot of those if you get into the Rockies areas or brush. And they r expensive. I have not jig and crawler any or trolled cranks. If your friends would like a. Trip. I have half days available for July 1 or 2nd. Then am open from July 15th and after.

I clip the front hook off and don't lose as many, that is when I don't forget to open the bail and send them flying into the sunset. -Austin

Or pitch short distances I don't cast long distance cause you can't really get the lift you need to trigger strikes. MrGiggles 1
rps Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 As for jigging raps, they work great, but they desire, crave, and long to hang up. Use a War Eagle or Binks jigging spoon instead. Better yet, change the hook on one to a single hook. Cast, not far from the boat, and let it sink to the bottom on loose, but semi tight, line. Yank it off the bottom and reel one turn of the handle, and let it sink again, until it is under the rod tip. Yo Yo twice and reel it in to repeat. BTW I have been reading @lmt-outfitters posts. He knows what he is doing.

Seriously, is it just to make the worm wobble more? They call that a slow death hook. You thread the crawler on and the worm spirals as you go forward. The hook shown is a Trokar . I found them on sale in the Cabela bargain cave. https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/the-latest-spin-on-slow-death-rigging/156091
