Slip Bobber crappie

Put in a RB about 730 am.  Water temp was 79.  Fished around bridge pillars and around stobs with minnows and slip bobbers.  Ended up the day with 22 keepers between 2 of us.  Fished in depths of 12 to 30 ft, 10 ft down.   Nothing funnier than watching that bobber sink, must be the kid in me.  Caught a lot of shorts through out the day.  Off water by 3 pm.  The crappie made us work for them, but was a good day on the lake.

Sounds like a great time. I love watching the bobber sink🙂. Almost as good a feeling as that thump on the line IMO! That just never gets old.

My wife and I have fished slip bobbers for over 30 years and we love it. Your trip sounds similar to ours on Friday and Sunday, 22 keeper crappie on Friday, 17 on Sunday. Slow but steady. All 10' deep. No pattern, some while drifting minnows, some while in deep water some in shallow and some along steep banks. Water temp 82F and clarity 4 ft.  We also caught 4 channels and a nice flathead cat. Several bass of 13 to 16", all 10' deep.

Straw hat do you like the rubber stoppers or the ones pre knot string stoppers.

Interested as well. Tried them all and have yet to find one that doesn't become an aggravation in spinning rods with small guides.

The pre-knot string stoppers are the best of the two. I actually tie my own string knots to the line, I buy cotton string, cut a small piece (4 or 5 "), wrap it around my line 5 times and then place two square knots in it. Tighten each square knot firmly but not too much. When finished trim the excess line. If you do get the knot too tight and it will not move then just soak it in the lake for about 20 seconds and it will usually slide after that.  

 

I bought a large spool of that cotton line from a fabric shop about 15 years ago for $7 and I still have plenty left. Cheap bobber stops. I don't remember what thickness line I bought but later today will check out the spool and see if it is labelled. Will let you know.

I haven't watched a bobber sink in over - well been a lot of years.

Don’t buy the white red and black styrofoam slip bobbers. They suck. I like the bamboo ones. I guess they’re bamboo anyway  I can see them a little better too.

I used Thill Pro and these. I like the latter better but I can't remember why, been a while since I used them.
