oneshot 1 Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Why when a Group goes out Squirrel hunting everyone uses Shotguns? I've used Shotgun but was brought up using .22. oneshot
fishinwrench Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 If you're hunting with a group, or with dogs, then you're unlikely to get many good shots with a rifle/pistol. Success favors the guy with the scattergun.
oneshot 1 Posted August 29, 2020 Author Posted August 29, 2020 Got a Muzzleloading Shotgun I like but you have to get close. oneshot
luckycraft Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Savage or Stevens made a .410 22 over/under. Ultimate squirrel gun but the prices are way high imho. .410 is a sweet cheep choice MoCarp 1
Gavin Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Shotgun is a better bet if quick shots are required. Can shoot em all day long with a 22 air rifle and never leave my yard. Stick with low shots in the neighborhood. Lots of windows. 3 neighbors shoot them too, so no complaints as long as you shoot smart.

My dad had a .22 Hornet/.410 Paratrooper that if you were using it to "survive" you'd starve to death. Well made, but worthless.
MOPanfisher Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 My killz-all (.410/22 and an earlier .22/20) were both quite accurate with the .22 barrel, and yes the trigger I'll was horrible and heavy. I used them when I ran beagles, was perfect for rabbits, run you got a load of 6s, sit and you got a bullet. The .410 was the worst of the two, heavy and just didn't like it. Never liked it for squirrel hunting though.
Terrierman Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I never warmed up to squirrel hunting with shotguns. .22 LR with a good scope was all I used for many years. Now I own this thing in .22 WMR. It's now used for all things rimfire. That's a Leupold 2x7 compact in the rings. Gavin, Daryk Campbell Sr and luckycraft 3

I bet I could put em in a hockey puck at 30 yards Terrierman and wily 2

Open sights. I use it for my trapping dispatch gun Terrierman 1
