Dancing With a Smallmouth

I got out on the river this week. It was pretty much how I left it last time I was on it, maybe a little lower and slower. This is not much of a report but I did catch another walleye up from Shelvin Rock. Now I'm on four trips streak, down the James, catching at least one walleye on each trip. As I was floating down I can to a little section of current with a small eddy on the other side of the river. I was standing in water about 2 ft. deep. I thought there might be a couple of goggle eyes in it. On the first cast one followed it back , but no bite. Nothing hit it until around the 9th cast and then the fight was on. I danced with this beast for about a minute, jumped a couple times, I think both her and I,  before I landed her. She was caught on an 1/8th oz. lure. That made my trip but I also caught goggle eyes and smallmouths. Also there were no crowds at the put in or take out. Didn't catch a lot and only one big one but a good, quite day on the river. Took pictures of a few and released them all.

Nice fish for sure.  Boga grips on the walleye . . . fair enough, but the smallmouth??  I'm take a hole puncher to your man card for that.

Flysmallie, thanks for the comment. ColdWaterFshr, I caught the bass, lipped it with my thumb and took the lure out. I didn't want to lose it reaching for my phone,camera, so I used my gripper. So......... now that I have explained can I have my punch back?

1. That is not a Boga.

2. Phil tells me Bogas harm trout and I believe him. However I have used a Boga on walleye and bass for over five years. I was flat tired of hooks in my hand. None. Let me repeat that. None suffered any damage or holes. In fact the Boga does not displace the jaw as much as lipping does. As for my man card, do you want to play some rugby? 😁
