top_dollar Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 My brother and I are headed down this weekend to try and catch a few walleyes. Has anybody been targeting them recently? My guess is that it will be tough? We are giving it a shot no matter what, at least the weather is supposed to be nice. liphunter and Big Keene 2
MrGiggles Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Now is one of the best times to go. Bottom bouncers are the go-to for most. I prefer cranks or jig and crawler. top_dollar, Big Keene and liphunter 2 1 -Austin

This time of year, unless you fish at dusk or dawn, I suggest you fish just above the thermocline. Walleye stay close to the bottom or suspended in trees. Finding them with sonar rarely happens. Members lmt-outfitters Posted September 16, 2020 Members Posted September 16, 2020 Had a trip yesterday. We caught 24. 6 of them keepers. Using jigging raps. 14 to 22 ft. Moving around till you saw them on the graph. Usually on the bottom to just above. Drop down on them rip up let fall to bottom. Rip up again till one time you lift and there he is. wtr dogs, MoCarp, nomolites and 3 others 4 2
Members lmt-outfitters Posted September 16, 2020 Members Posted September 16, 2020 But bottom bouncing with harnesses or jig and crawler. Should work also. I have also heard trolling cranks has been working. Big Keene and top_dollar 1 1

It is vertical jigging time, although I tend to use spoons. I am surprised at the depth you had success. From mid August through to October, I never could find them anywhere but near the thermocline or suspended in timber.

Gavin Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Canadian guide I fished with loved to vertical jig a pink fluke on a white or chartreuse ball head jig. rps 1
