I've caught more bass over 5# on a jig w/a plastic crawdad of some sort, than any other bait I've ever used. Hard to argue with a 3 fish sample size😁 fishinwrench 1

I’ve always fished it stand alone after it was perfected. At the beginning I actually designed it as a hair jig trailer for winter fishing...based on our time with Nick. The other factor is some people just can’t seem to give up the traditional jig skirt. It’s just a hard to break habit I guess. I guess it is. To be honest, I tried the HD Craw on a jig a few times, never thought it was as good as using it alone. And not any better than any other jig and trailer combination. But heck, 75% of success on any lure is having confidence in it. If folks have confidence that a certain trailer works better on a jig, it probably will, for them. I gotta wonder, though, how many guys who say that so-and-so is their best lure (or lure combination in this case) are having so much success on it because that's what they use most or all the time. There has been a trend in the last 5 or so years (maybe longer) to reduce the number of skirt strands on jigs. The Dirks jig would probably be the best example. I’m talking less than 20 strands, more like 12-15. It definitely makes the jig more finesse and adds more of a subtle look. It also kind of hides a wire weed guard, which is another good feature. I still don’t get those telephone pole fiber weedguards. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

When you're shooting/skipping a jig under docks, cables, boat hoists, etc. A wire weedguard just causes problems. You get the jig in.....and the wire looks like a lawnmower just ran over it. For standard limp-wristed floozie casting....they are fine. 😄 Flysmallie 1
