Was digging around a shed the other day and found my (very) late grandfathers' green metal tacklebox.  Probably hasn't been opened for a few decades.  And this is some of what I found inside.  I can't imagine anything in there being much of anything but I just found it interesting.

I know he fished the White River system before the dams and the James along with several others in Arkansas along with his father and grandfather.  None of those in the picture are that old but I'm wondering just what else I might find having been passed down and forgotten.

Bass Orenos. Lazy Ikes. Flat fish. Jitterbugs. River Runt. Eire Dearie style spinners. And jigs!

You could fish only these and catch many bass.

Looks like he had all the basics covered!

There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

My dad's entire bass out could be covered by Jitterbugs, Lazy Ikes, Midge Oregon and a couple jointed Rebels.  We caught a lot of bass and had a lot of fun with them.  More often than not if we were on a short evening trip his tackle box was his hat.  Put an extra lure or 2 in his hat and put it back on his head.  Never got a hook in his scalp either, not sure how.

I'd throw every one of those lures on any river in the Ozarks and catch fish.  Back in the old days, the Heddon River Runt, Lazy Ike (especially that yellow one with the spots), and the two-prop topwater were absolute killers.  And although those twin spins aren't Shannons, they were deadly then and would be now.
