84) Golden Shiner ! Finally, I can stop pestering ppl about locations for this guy. Magic Man Dave knew a pond on Conservation land that had some.

it was a Struggle. Hot! Lots of vegetation to fish around, but eventually I figure out a jig/float combo to get out far enough away to where they were

Dang thing somehow buried the jig in my hand, but Dave the Medic did the string trick after we got back to the car.

I continued to fish with jig planted in hand. I really wanted a second one. The Bluegill were just getting to the bait too quickly. Darkness caught us and I wanted the jig out so I gave up after 11 more bluegill and walked to the First Aid Station (aka Dave's Car).

I got several Koi. This was my first. On 2 lb line and a micro jig with the Leland TCB rod. Most of the rest were on flyrod, but it's been a HOT, Sweaty Blur the last couple of days and I can't swear I didn't catch another one on spinning.

 

Koi are so unique...you should post pics of the other ones you caught. 😀

@Ham Flat out GETS IT DONE!  Everywhere I took him, he caught everything!  I think the only species on his list we didn't manage to find was a Goldeye.  I was catching them at this time last year...but for whatever reason, I haven't caught any in the creek since April.  Totally killed it on Bullhead on a fly (took about a minute), Goldfish on a fly (from 2 different places!), Koi on a fly, Grass Carp on a fly (5!, plus one on an ultralight rod!), Redear on a fly, Shortnose Gar on a fly, Golden Shiner... 👊  We even took about a 4-hour early afternoon break!

It was amazing this all happened in just one day!

The fish are still wondering, "What just happened?" 😄

Imagine burying a hook right where you move your thumb to reel in line or hold the rod... And deciding to just leave it there and keep fishing for another hour😬.  THAT is dedication!
