liphunter Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I'm sure this has been discussed. But I can't find it. Is anyone familiar with business or individual close to Springfield or Joplin area. That does aluminum refinishing or painting? TIA Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
fishinwrench Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Assuming that your painting a boat......I'm set up for Aluminum Oxide primer and Marsh Grass Green. I don't mess with trying to shoot any other colors. Any good auto body shop will do it though. liphunter 1
DADAKOTA Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 How much cleaning has to be done prior to the primer Wrench?

I had a guy blast mine with glass beads. Don't use steel as it will imbed in the aluminum and rust. Took him 10 minutes. He's a dustless sandblast company and he had a gantry crane to lift it off the trailer. Daryk Campbell Sr and liphunter 1 1

Flysmallie Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 The cleaner the better. I guess it really depends on how nice you want it to be. If you just want it to be one color then get it clean, scuff it up, and go to town. If you want it to be really nice then let me know and I'll type out that lengthy response. But neither way is difficult. liphunter 1
wily Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 If you decide to rattle can it...I like the krylon better than rustoleum...can get the krylon camo at Lowe’s. Krylon sticks better....doesn’t scratch as easily.
JamiePatterson Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 I remember when I was a kid and I painted my outboard motor camouflage with spray paint. I was so proud! Then one day I got some gasoline on the page and it washed right off… I have used automotive paint ever since. I’m pretty sure Sherwin William’s offers a good option too, through their commercial coatings line. -the name escapes me though.
