2/27 Shell Knob - Quick Trip

Fished from a little after 10 until 1 or so.  Got a late start and ended up parking in the grass by the road.  Lot was overflowing with rigs.  
Main objective of the trip was to run the boat. Its been down for about a year and just getting her back up and going.  That went well. 
The fishing was tough.  For starters finding a spot to fish was difficult.  Every point and cut in sight had boats on them.  Found a few open bluffs and bluff ends and managed 2 on ned.  Both were around 30 ft deep.   Threw jerkbait, a-rig, and jig as well with no takers.  Water temp was 41-42.

Was a beautiful day and the boat is back up and running so no complaints.

Talked to multiple guys at the ramp who blanked or only caught one fish.

Talked to somebody that was out on the lake yesterday and he said the same thing that there were boats everywhere.  I can understand why, first Saturday in a while that anyone could get out and fish in and throw in a few tourneys.

The number of boats out was crazy.  We had a couple fish mid lake but like you said it was tough finding an open bank to fish.  There were some real idiots out too. We were idling graphing a channel swing about 70 yds from the bank and some idiot blasts by between us and the bank at 60+ mph.  He had 700 yds of wide open lake to pass by us but chose to go by between us and the bank.

Gotta love late winter/early spring. All of the cocky little wannabe's come out running and gunning, nearly killing anyone who gets in their way, not to mention cutting off anyone who dares to be where they want to be. And it's not a matter of not knowing any better; it's a matter of not giving a crap. Most of them will be on the golf course after they bomb out in the first couple of tournaments. Unfortunately, I'll encounter them there, too. 

Sorry to say, but the more people let them get away with that kind of behavior, the worse it's gonna get. Chunk a spoon or a Whopper Plopper at them. Aim at their head and I hope it's your most accurate cast of the day. 😆

I never had any issues with any with anybody.  But there were alot of guys flying around a little faster than I prefer.

Good to hear. It's not everyone for sure. But there's just enough of them to make things dangerous and miserable out there some days.

Unfortunately, this is the new normal. Even during the week this early in the season there will be plenty of people on the water

We have a neighbor that is in the VRBO business.  She currently has 25 lake homes to rent. She is keeping 10 for nightly rentals and has already rented 15 for the entire season to single families that have homes else where.   Their kids are going to school online and the parents are working from these lake homes. 
She told me the other day that the lowest monthly rental she had was $8,000.00 and her top one was $15,000 per month.   Just unreal that people have and are willing to spend that much money. 
Spoke to Booker Cox one of the top area realtors and he said his dad was in the business here for 30 years and he now for 20 plus years and it’s totally insane. Dock slips bringing Sixty Grand and lake and view homes way over $200 a sq. Ft. 
We had a couple at the Lodge from Cally last week and they just bought a 1.2 acre lake view lot for 240K. 
ya got something to sell now is the time.

sometimes one might need to vet the buyers or you might be a factor in changing a conservative state of mind.  kinda like selling something to the ccp.

During my lifetime I can not remember a wider gap in the have and have nots   The disparity is simply unreal.

The thing here is the upper middle income folks are really not upper, in my opinion they are way more than that

The super nice folks from Cally that bought the lot down the street call themselves “very middle” income. He just retired and she has 5 more years at an executive position that pays her $290,000 a year  

Its not just Cally. My best friends wife in frigging Spfg. Mo. makes more than that 

That 35 something to 70 age group and that is a wide gap of ages, if they are professional people a huge percentage have lots of money, and I don’t mean borrowed or money they own, they have lots of income

My son at 36 had made more money than both myself and his mother will make in our lifetime by the time he was 28.  I think he still has every penny of it as he is still driving the car we bought him to go to college 

New norm is lots of folks using lakes, parks and all the things we are blessed with

Have a good one there is still room for us ole codgers out there

I never made that kind of money even when I was lawyering. The wife came a bit closer her last couple of years in telecommunications. Fortunately, we did not spend all of what we made and rat holed it in 401k mutual funds for over 20 years while we taught and lived on that income..

Still can't afford $8,000 per month.

Older daughter lives in Rhode Island and works for a school system. She and her husband can afford a modest home, but likely will never see that kind of income. Younger daughter just took a job at a non profit here in Tulsa at 50k per year. She has some equity from her house in Savannah and will be able to buy a modest house here. Again, she will never see that kind of money.

Charts of comparative income by quartile are downright obscene. Fully employed workers in the bottom quarter are often at or below poverty level. Even those in the third quarter are in modest houses with not that much discretionary income. Cars, boats, and home remodels are on payments. Meanwhile the top quarter includes a small percentage of grossly high compensation. Compare that breakdown to the 1950 to 1970 statistics.
