How are you getting the boards apart? I've  used claw hammers and end up splitting the wood than pulling the nails.

The nails are darn near impossible to get out of most of them. Especially the ones that are only heat treated, which are the ones you want to use. 
 

It’s a little tricky at first but we use a sawzall to cut the nails between the boards. Works great once you get the hang of it.
