Shad are pretty cool and all... but can't I just jump directly to tarpon?  😜

I worked my way up from Gizzard Shad to Goldeye to Skipjack Herring already...

And since I've already caught Creek Chubs,  I really feel like I can handle just about any fish!  Creek chubs are pure adrenaline.... 🥱

Moving to shad gives you more targets and an elevation in excitement to work towards that tarpon. Regardless both are more that about an hour away from you, so your self imposed travel restrictions will hinder your chances to catch either 😜🙄

Never Diss the "Chub"!

I wouldn't pass on that fish😁. Though not sure how much of a challenge it would be since I would be able to put the line through the hook eye unaided or not require multiple attempts 😉. Also there would not be the chance that the hook would blow away.

Ha ha, ok ok.... Are you teasing me?  The backstory is...Ham gave me a tiny fly and tiny tippet to tie on, so I could try for the Dollar Sunfish.  After I had lazer surgery on my eyes a few years ago, my near vision is much worse than before.  My distance vision isn't great either.  I make do, and try to avoid tiny hooks.  So...trying to tie a tiny fly on tiny tippet... I worked at it for quite awhile.  Eventually, Ham tried to rescue me and tie it on himself...and then determined the eyelet was glued shut.  So... it wasn't all my fault...was it?

Nope not talking about your eyesight😉

Hadn't heard that story. I have to battle the slightest breeze blowing light line and bad eyesight to thread on my microhooks. So fishing for bigger fish is easy in comparison.

Yeah, big fish are easy! 😁

I used to flyfish after dark, and could often see my fly line good enough to detect strikes.  Didn't realize that skill would diminish with time, too.

FTR, I have plenty of increasing difficulties associated with advancing age so I don't tease anybody about that.
micro fishing is a different challenge than conventional stuff. Both can be tough or easy..

Caught a couple creek chubs yesterday.

Caught a few dull-colored Longear Sunfish out of one muddied-up creek.  Went to another creek and caught this handsome fella.

Caught a couple shortnose gar.  Not as many visible on this trip...until I found a bunch of shortnose and longnose gathered in one spot.

Caught 3 little channel cats while trying for grass carp.

That photo should make @snagged in outlet 3 run for the restroom 🤣. Looks awesome to me though. I may have to try to convince my wife that I need to fly out to StL to fish for a day to get on some of those species that you are just beating on. We are having some issues in Columbia that may require a trip. So just maybe...
