I’m hearing the new Dodge Rams are the cats meow. Thoughts? Diesel or Gas?

I have a 2010 F-150 that I'm thinking about trading in too, but with the truck shortage, no way I'm paying a premium on top of MSRP.  So I may be keeping it until this stuff gets worked out, if it ever does.

Every time I crunch the numbers on diesel vs gas, gas always wins out.  I can tow my boat up and down and around the Ozark hills just fine with my gas truck, so it is hard for me to pony up the extra bucks for diesel.

Good luck. My buddy drives a ton for work and sold his 2018 Silverado with 132k miles for $39,000 last month. Insane.

I’m trading in a 2018 Toyota 4 Runner, they’re telling me $32K trade in

That's crazy good. Other buddy got a diesel sierra and loves it. Gets 680 miles on a tank and averages 22 mpg in the city, 28-30 on the highway. Got it for $43k

I bought a '21 model RAM 2500 4x4 back in February.

The performance of the 6.4 Hemi is amazing.  This truck makes a mockery of my G2 5.9 Cummins turbo diesel.

Fuel mileage for the first 500 miles was appalling, but once past that it has steadily improved.  Took the camper

from Columbia to Montauk and back last month and averaged just over 12mpg for the trip.  The 8 speed automagic

transmission is super smooth.  Shifting is no-doubt, no hesitation.  Unloaded on the highway it's getting very close

to 20mpg, if not a bit over.  Unloaded around town driving it gets 15-16mpg range, depending on how how I use the

throttle.   Fit and finish is good, ride is good, seats are comfortable, sound system is good, and the  performance is

simply incredible.  At 3750 miles I can't find anything not to like about this truck.

I don’t know about the Dodge.  I had a Duramax for 8 years because I needed it for long distance hauling a heavy fifth wheel trailer.  It had pull power but when we quit going south I couldn’t wait to get rid of it.

One more thing...  demand is outrunning supply right now.  You will be lucky to find what you want in stock,

at any dealer in the state, and you'll probably have to pay through the nose for whatever you buy.

I got lucky this time.  Capitol Chrysler had 16 of them on the lot, and a President's Day sale going on when I

needed a new truck.  A month after I got mine they had zero 2500 RAM trucks on the lot.  Today it looks like

they have two in stock, and two in transit.  So I guess what I'm getting at is if/when you find the one you want,

don't fiddle around thinking about it.  Go to the dealership and bite the bullet asap or it will be gone.

Talked to a guy at a gas station about his diesel Dodge truck, he bought it new and immediately removed all emissions hardware (I’m assuming he lives in a county where certain emissions checks are  not required) he said the increase in fuel economy was crazy...but I’m sure it voids the warranty.
