dan hufferd Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 The wife and I wanted to see if her 2016 Toyota rav 4 would pull our 2004 tracker deep V 17, so we hauled the pair to Stockton. We go a late start, but we made it just fine. Marked fish from 0 to 30 ft or so, spooned up a few bass in the mid 20 foot range. They liked the 1/2 Binks blue and chrome. It was hot ! So no walleye... at least the bass came to play. Looked like great weather. If I was still living in Columbia, I would have to have you teach me the Bink's spoon technique. You have it perfected. dan hufferd 1

Smithvillesteve Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Dan: Did you try any other techniques or just the spoon? I'm taking a buddy down next wed and thurs. Gonna try for some eyes. Thanks.

Gonna try for some eyes. Thanks. Can catch them on about anything, but jig/crawler and bottom bouncing are most popular. Swimbaits and crankbaits work too. I've never caught anything but drum and whites on a spoon in the summer. I'm hoping to get out a couple times this week. -Austin

If you hear fish busting water it's probably not carp, I will have a fluke or paddle tail handy next trip. Johnsfolly 1

I saw some of that but never in range and they never stayed up more than a couple of seconds.

I have thrown a jigging spoon into those, you can launch one of those things 50 yards, count to 2 then drop the rod tip and start working it back like a spook. You will at least get some followers. The thing looks just like a minnow running for it's life🤣 Johnsfolly and wtr dogs 2

As an alternative, throw the same but allow the paddle tail to sink on free spool. Then retrieve it the same way, but with pauses every 5 to 10 seconds to allow it to sink to the bottom again. Fish, including bass, walleye, and catfish sit under feeders and clean up the leftovers. dan hufferd 1
