I think the DNR might be pretty protective on those natives. Most of the streams are self producing. The browns are thick as fleas in places. More on that later. A couple places there is a ten fish limit any size. Eat those brown trout and rainbows. I think some streams have rainbow stocked for catching. You know what they say about golfers.... Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden. I'm thinkin' they had their eyes on the tall polite one. Pat pops up and ruins everything. 🤣
ness Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Great write up! Sorry Pat got flashed at the golf course. Those brookies are beauties, and it’s cool that they’re native. Also cool the level of access available in the Driftless. BilletHead 1 John

BilletHead Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 Next day was kind of a push. Woke up to a low tire when we pulled out of the lot at 6 am. Early bird gets the trout. Tried to find a place to fix tire. No love early in the morning. at 7:30 ford grage answered the phone. Yea come over we will fix it. They did and like all the folks up there wanted to visit. Service manager, slaes manager and the mechanic who fixed the tire. All of them wanted to mark on our map. Well we went off for another scout trip. Scout and drive we did only to find overgrown access but nice looking water. Took a long, long walk through duck egg park and riding trail. Upper bad ax flows through there. Pretty water but hard to fish. No love there and a bit bigger with colored run off. Warmer day and we were wet from being in waders on that hike. Did a break and some flea market stuff. One more day until the cabin rental we were ready for that. Next morning poking around again found us fishing more of Coon Valley and the Timber Coulee creek well below the golf course, Lars road access. Looked up and downstream finding well open areas tried upstream first and caught a few then down we went and found even more. This is where I scored on my largest on the trip a solid 14 inch fish. No guessing with us if we have a way to measure we do. Finding fish in standard places here and there. Fun until we ran into this. Part of the game I suppose up there. Too bad the DNR cannot do a bit better but it is what it is. Old Bossy comes right towards us. Has a collar on so we just thought it was a pet. Well right into the stream ahead of us to its belly and I said its going to crap in the stream and crap it did. Green runny coop! We turned around right there, Fished all over here and there that day. Then found our cabin a bit early but were granted the go ahead to check in as it was ready. We were greeted with our own little cabin in the coulee. Right in the middle of where we had been fishing. I call it deer camp for obvious reasons. One Big room and small bunk room and bathroom WITH SHOWER Greeting at the door, Inside we found this, I knew this was going to be a good place After moving in it was a rest and newly discovered spotted cow, We hauled up a round griddle and it was pancakes that evening. It was so quiet there except for the generator time. At night all you could hear was the ringing in your ears. We played many games of Yahtzee. ness Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Did a double-take on that flag; I thought it was the stars and bars for a second. Those scandahoovians are sure proud of their heritage! And upper midwest folks are some of the nicest you'll find anywhere. Greasy B and BilletHead 2 John
