How not to use a pistol.  The story goes on to say that the person that was shot, was shot in the leg and will survive.

KENOSHA, Wis. (NEXSTAR) – A Wisconsin woman accidentally shot a friend while using the laser sight on a handgun to play with a cat, authorities said.

A criminal complaint charging the 19-year-old woman with negligent use of a weapon said she was visiting a Kenosha apartment on Tuesday afternoon where a 21-year-old man had brought a handgun.

The woman, who a witness said had been drinking, picked up the handgun, “turned on the laser sight and was pointing it at the floor to get the cat to chase it,” when the gun went off, the complaint filed Thursday said.

Sadly, negligent discharges are pretty common.

Yes it happens but so do drunk drivers killing people,  drug overdose death, people dying of covid (needlessly) and other things in life. Where was the results of the deaths predicted when the conceal carry license became reality in states that issued? Then again predicted when some states gave the right with out going to class? the prediction did not happen as called out.

On our recent trip and I look into it ahead we were good to go except in Minnesota.( We did not carry out of the vehicle) Minnesota does not recognize our CC permit. I think it is because in Missouri you can still qualify if you have had a misdemeanor weed conviction and in Minnesota you cannot. So up there even in a vehicle the handgun and ammunition must be separate and locked up.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm about as far from anti-gun as you can get.  I just did a mental count and there are four in the house right now.

My point, and it IS valid is negligent discharges happen far too often.  They almost always involve either a child who gets ahold of a gun when they should not (no excuse for that one - but it happens) an untrained or poorly trained adult, or alcohol.

Guns are deadly.  That's their whole purpose.  Everybody needs to remember that all the time and treat them accordingly.

Correct but it's the owners fault and being diligent Is the answer. There are many who do not need to have one period end of discussion but not to punish all for stupid people.

Agree.  I do not think I ever suggested that.

Yeah we don’t want somebody that smoked a joint with a gun but you can buy all the liquor you want with one strapped to your hip.

As far as I'm concerned any drinking infraction should be a violation too. Dwi especially.

I don't know if it's true but I have heard that all these idiots that are rushing out to get their "legal marijuana card" are being denied firearm purchases.

Anybody know for sure?

This question appears on the form you have to fill out to purchase a handgun:

Question 11.e. “11.e. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

It's a yes/no answer.  I answer "no" as I  don't use marijuana or any narcotic drugs, but I would bet if someone checks "yes" their application will be denied.
