I'm not sure if it is because of Ida or not, but the powers that be SHUT the water OFF at about 4 PM yesterday.
Thousands of trout will die today because they went from 19 K to zero if the chart is to be believed and it is sure as heck Low right now.

. Thank God for Catch and Release right?

Saw this on the AR district Corps Facebook page:

We turned off hydropower generation from Bull Shoals and Norfork power plants earlier today because of an incident downstream.
We are doing everything we can to assist local authorities. We do not have any further details at this time.
We plan to bring both power plants back online at full power in the morning.
Those downstream of the dams can expect heavy generation off and on tomorrow. Please be advised that these may be very unusual flow patterns.
Fishermen and floaters are urged to immediately move to higher ground when the horns below the dams are sounded. Do not wait for the water to start rising before taking action.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Water levels can be found by downloading our smartphone app or using our website.

Sorry to hear about the drowning. Prayers for the family.

I woke up and looked out the window to see low water at Roundhouse and then checked the flow at the dam and it showed zero.. Threw the wading gear in the truck and had a fantastic morning. Caught probably 60 rainbows and one nice cutthroat. All fish caught on dry flies and cracklebacks.

I noticed the water kept getting lower and the lower it got, the better the fishing, but I had to move to the deeper runs. Never seen it this low in the 4 years we have been here. No big ones, but lots of fun. I didn't see any stranded trout, but did see some dead or dying sculpins on the bank. I guess the herons and eagles had a good breakfast this morning.

It is a wonder that we don't see more drownings with all the yakers and canoes out there. I saw multiple yaks being put in with 4 units running on Taney just the other day. I would bet that would have been their first time on Taney and their experience was probably zero in Kayaks. A tragedy waiting to happen.

10 years ago it was rare to see a kayak on the White River ; these days they are almost as common as dead armadillo on the side of the road.

Canoe Liveries having been dumping the ignorant into boats and putting them in harms way for decades.

people literally have NO IDEA what they are doing or what the risks are. These same people then often throw gas on that potential fire by intoxicating themselves with drugs or alcohol.

I am honestly surprised that I haven't seen a "have you or a loved one been killed or injured in a rental canoe or kayak" legal cattle calls.
