I love jig pole fishing for crappie, but water is usually too clear at Bull Shoals to catch em that way.  I have mostly been swimming small jigs with Bobby Garland Baby Shad slow and steady. Recently however, a fishing Buddy opened my eyes to the effectiveness of a jigging spoon on deeper stuff.
so I have a few ways to try for them

It definitely is clearer than Stockton and Pomme de Terre but I rarely fish shallower than 25’ and for me the clearer and sunnier the better.  I make a bait called a stinger which is a lot like the Bobby Garland baby shad.  For vertical fishing I use it on 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz heads that I pour on #4 hooks.

What are you doing with those cannon balls? :D

I don't think I've ever used heavier than 1/16 for crappie, even in 40 feet. Heavy jigs just get you hung up more.

I guess it doesn't matter too much though, I've caught dinky crappie on 3" keitechs before.

I have all sorts of colors and styles, but use black/chart or blue ice baby shads pretty much exclusively. I've also taken a liking to slab busters.

I did the spooning thing last winter and had a lot of fun with it, although I also had success with a 3" tiny fluke on an 1/8 oz head and small jigging raps in the same conditions. Put a bunch of whites and a couple walleye in the boat too.

I’ve caught them as deep as 72’ on Pomme.  I won’t live long enough to get a 1/16 that deep nor do I have the patience for that.
