mine internally shorted so it did the same thing.

Did it happen while you were out fishing?    If so then I feel for ya.

I've always been extra careful to NEVER be out on a boat when it was ON FIRE.....and luckily I've been spared that experience thus far.

I don't swim well at all and I doubt I'd do any better with third-degree burns. I'll pass on the lithium ions for now. Lead acid still serves the purpose for me.

My thoughts as well.    But I'm still relatively low-tech with my current fleet of fishing boats.

The power demands of some of y'all's rigs is bordering on insanity.   To think of all the fish caught/ tournaments won/ records set/ ect. without all those VOLTS in the past......is astounding.   😂

it happened on the way back to the ramp, about half a mile from buffalo city.  I saw smoke coming from under the deck and I kept the hammer down until we got back to the ramp.

My issue was actually not common. if you buy a battery with LiFePo cells(lithium iron phosphate) that becomes a non-issue.  They are not as energy dense as LiPo batteries but are far safer.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Good info to know.

I haven't kept up with battery improvements. Do they have batteries which can handle 12V trolling motor and start outboard motors. I've a 12V trolling motor and a 40HP 2011 Mercury and would that be advisable?

Yes.  Lithium batteries can do both at once.
