jdmidwest
My Grandson's other Grandpa bought him a new rifle for his birthday a few weeks ago. TC 6.5 Creedmore bolt action rifle. The other guy, not being a gun person thought I would take over from there. No scope, and most importantly, no ammo. Scopes are easy, we came up with that pretty quick. Needed one since it was a slick top with no open sights. Ammo, big problem. I own many rifle calibers and have a stock of ammo for them, and reloading supplies to make more. But no 6.5 Creedmore. 6.5 Grendel that I own helps some, I have some stock bullets for the same caliber. Finding loaded ammo for almost anything other than 5.56 or .308 is tough. Went online to Midway USA tonite and ordered dies, brass, and some bullets. Lucky me, I have powder and primers to finish the job. We will roll our own next week when it all comes together. The last few years have brought shortages of stuff I never would have imagined. I wanted crackers with my chili last night, store was out of saltines and oysters, I made cornbread. Meat and veggies are always a crap shoot if they will have your cut or choice. Garden stuff, last year I could not find green pepper plants or tomato stakes. Canning jars were nowhere to be found. I would like to try new calibers of firearms, but if you go that route, you have to find the ammo to feed them. Car lots are empty. Boat lots are empty. Gunshops are empty. Fishing industry seems to be keeping up this year. Plenty of lures, rods, reels. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. fishinwrench
Just curious..... What's with the sudden infatuation with the 6.5 Creedmore round ? Are people just needing more exercise chasing hit deer ? Ryan Miloshewski
nomolites
There will always be a hot new round marketed to get generating $$$. Always. My hunting buddy had a 6.5 Creedmoor built for him that he took hunting this year…he is a good shooter, and never misses. He missed this year, the bullet likely hit a tiny bush honeysuckle twig and deflected. I think his ‘06 would not have had the same deflection but I can’t prove that. jdmidwest
Long range shooters developed it. Just a souped up modern .270 round. But, Lapua and others brought it to glory. Cycles good in an AR10 long action. Ballistically, it performs like my .244 REM/6mm REM rifles with a little more lead down range. Its long range predictability and energy makes it good for some that shoot over 500 yards. Heavier chunk of lead. Creedmore is for targets. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. 1farmer
Our son shoots a 6.5 creedmor and a 308 long range. According to him, the 6.5 will shoot with the 308 up to 500 to 600 yards, after that the 308 is a better cartridge. I did witness him shooting a 3 1/2 inch target at 880 yards with the 6.5. Admittedly these are not factory loads. He shoots a 147gr. bullet in the 6.5 and I think he is shooting a 165gr. in the 308.
MOPanfisher
Local shop had some of 6.5. I can look next time I am there if ya want. I don't have a 6.5 so I didn't even look at the price.

Are people just needing more exercise chasing hit deer ? It's really nothing groundbreaking, but has a couple small things going for it. Mainly, you can load long, low BC bullets. It's a short action round with good velocity, minimal recoil, and excellent ballistics. I think people hate on it because it's popular and a little overhyped. The advantages aren't significant enough to matter for what 99% of us use a rifle for. But people like to play with the latest and greatest, which is fine. I haven't had any trouble finding ammo. Finding it reasonable priced on the other hand, forget it. Been to a couple places that had plenty but it was marked up 20-50%. Online is a lot better but still a lot of price gouging. Ammoseek is the best thing ever. Terrierman 1 -Austin
jdmidwest
The cartridge performs. But, so does a 308 and there are tons of it out there. I found one shop that had some for $52 a box and they were only 104 grain loads. Not sighting in a rifle at 2.60 a shot. fishinwrench
Yeah, I used to have an infatuation with .243 and 6mm rifles. I loved the ballistics, but then I noticed that everything I hit (even though shot placement was good) ran off 100+ yards. Even coyotes. 🙄 Then one year I grabbed the ol' .30-06 and quickly realized that everything I hit was piled up 10 steps or less from where I hit it at. I like that! I don't mind doing a little range estimation if what I'm shooting at dies sooner. IMO .30 caliber rounds do a much better job of anchoring deer sized game. Started off with the 6mm and then went to the 30-06. But, the surgery tweaked a nerve on the right shoulder and I am back to softer shooting rounds. And I have a pile of grandkids coming up the ranks. I shoot the .300 Blackout, 350 Legend, and the 6.5 Grendel. All work thru the AR 15 system, soft recoil. .300 Blackout and .350 Legend both perform like a 30-30. The 6.5 Grendel is more like a .270. Gas system on the AR smooths out the recoil and I don't have to flinch. Adj stocks fit the kiddos. Then there is the pistol aspect that lets me use them during the "Alternative" season. I have 3 AR's set up for that too. JestersHK and fishinwrench 2 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S.
