I figured he wouldn't know what Tenkara was.......so he would Google it, and find it interesting.   Low tech.

It was a genuine response.  🤷‍♂️

I was genuinely confused.   Seemed like a response to someone you thought may be trolling online.

I do agree,  he may find Tenkara interesting.   I just was taken back, as I  thought you were not a fan. Just found it interesting that you were promoting it.

Presidents are a great reel and I have several of them. I wish I would've bought a dozen when Bass Pro had them for 29.99 on black friday a few years ago.

That's all I use anymore.  I bought a high dollar reel about 20 years ago and before I even used it I stumbled down a rock bank and fell.   I used the hand my rod was in to break my fall and that poor reel was mangled.  I have 5 spinning outfits all with Presidents.  🤷‍♂️

Thanks, guys. I'm definitely in the "don't know what I don't know" stage. I've got an uncle south of Camdenton who's big time into fishing & been at it a while, so I've got a how-to-use-my-new-to-me-boat & fishing technique instructor. Just trying to wrap my head around what I'll need & start researching it, looking for sales & the like.

Tenkara actually looks kinda fun. Looks a lot like cane pole fishin' to me. Isn't fishing crappie with a jig pole the same kinda thing?

It isn't for me, so I'm not a fan.   But for someone reluctant to graduate from a Zebco 33.......Why not?

Picked up a Shimano Sedona 3000 to put on a Shakespeare Ugly Stick 6' medium action rod. It came as part of a cheap rod/reel/tacklebox combo we bought for our daughter to use in the neighborhood pond that never got used. Googled the rod & got decent reviews as a solid, workman rod, so why not?

I'm sure I'll move up to nicer rods as I gain experience & learn what I like/need, but this'll get me going for now. I'll see if I can con the ol' lady into having Santa put a nice trolling rig under the tree this year 😉

I looked at/fondled a Pflueger President as well & it wasn't even close & at only $5 more for the Shimano, it was a complete no-brainer. The Pflueger was nice, but the Shimano was crazy smooth. Best way I can put it is to compare a nice, stock Ruger Blackhawk to one built by a world class gunsmith. Glass smooth, tight, solid. I certainly don't need that level of gear & can't/won't swing it very often, but I absolutely love any precision, high quality mechanical device.

Nice!    I have an old bass pro brand MH spinning rod that I still use and it’s caught hundreds of fish.    Cork is all cracked and dry but whatever.    It’s a solid workhorse.   I’ll have to try that Sedona when I need another reel.   Let us know how you do ok?

Will do. Talked to my uncle south of Camdenton & he's stoked to help me learn boating & fishing. He said he'd love to fish more, but doesn't like launching his boat alone, so I reminded him his nephew is also retired & more than happy to step up if he needs a fishing partner 😉 He's got a spot reserved at Pomme for a few days in August & invited us down, so that'll be fun. He's a good dude, so it'll be nice to reconnect (my grandmother played my dad against him since childhood, then did the same with myself & sister against his kids, so old family drama crap) & spend some quality hang time getting hooks wet.

I picked up good charts for Truman & Stockton, but they were out of Pomme charts. Thinking I'll stick pretty close to town at first- Gallinipper, Bear Creek & the like, unless I have someone along who knows the lakes well.

View any lake in the country.

I'm just 10 minutes south of you. I haven't fished the rivers much so I'm not a huge help there. I do know the Sac is great for crappie, put in at 82 just west of Osceola and you can either run upstream or downstream, where it runs into the Osage.

I spend most of my time at Stockton, usually put in at Crabtree, but fish from Master's quite a bit too. Occasionally I will run over to Pomme (put in at Wheatland). The crappie fishing at both has been great this year.

Once in a great while I'll run up to Truman and put in at Fairfield, but it's a rarity and I don't know the lake that well.

Hey Carl, i live in the Willard area, and fish Stockton around twice a week. If you get free and want to jump in, let me know. I’m a bass guy 99.9% of the time, so if you don’t mind fishing for bass “they all go back in the water” then let me know and we will get out there.

TinBoats BassClub.  An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

Thank you. That is hugely generous of you. I'm retired, so getting away is no problem, but... I'm a keeper/eater kinda guy. If there's a possibility of running into crappie, bluegill, or maybe even some whites while chasing bass & you don't mind me keeping 'em, I would love to take you up on your offer.
