We went up that way yesterday too. Rode to Cape Fair marina as it was just too hot to sit still for very long. On the way back we went up into Piney and fished a Ned for about half an hour and caught three thirteen or fourteen inch Kentuckies and missed two other bites all in ten feet of water or less.

Most action I’ve had in about forever but it was just too miserable back there with no breeze. Water temperature back in Piney was 85.5!

Fished the Kimberling bridge for twenty minutes or so as the shade and breeze was nice but not a sniff.

Didn’t fish more than an hour total but burned about twenty five gallons of “cheap” gas cruising around keeping “cool”.

Back to the golf course today and tomorrow but might run back up the James Thursday if it ain’t too COLD!!

Thanks  Al Gore….

@Dutchit intrigues me how they will hit the shakey heads and not the Neds.

Do you think it's the profile, size, action, weight, etc?

I've been wanting to try the shakey heads more. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations on baits, types of structure to fish them, and weights.

Thanks for your great reports @Dutch. Looking forward to some fall fishing!

have never been an advocate of slight color changes. I fish color that conforms  to conditions.   I more acknowledge that a change of location is way more important than a slight change in natural lure color. Thousand and thousands of both guide and fishing trips have sent me in this direction.

. I agree, color of individuals Vary, changes slightly depending on lighting even a fishes mood…profile seems more important….I have noticed bait minnows like fatheads, the males with dark head reading colors must not taste as good as an egg seeping female

As far as feeding locations…..some places fish rest some are where they feed…..current, ambush location, of the insects in a micro location are all hatching/molting/mating

I like you make my own heads.  I use several configurations and weights.  I go with the lightest weight that I can (1/16 to 3/8) depending on the depth.  Most of the time it is 1/8 or 3/32.  I only use Elaztech worms, Zeros and ZinkerZs.
